Hey kids!
LB's had a busy couple of weeks. Not only was he traversing around Cape Cod, but he just back from a trip in the Northern Michigan visiting one of our relatives, Uncle Smokey the Bear! Uncle Smokey has the very important job of reminding people of the dangers of forest fires. And he gets to wear a cool Park Ranger's Hat. He even has his own website! Uncle Smokey's a pretty tech-savvy bear! Of course, I'm pretty tech-savvy myself. I just don't have a website that's all my own. Check out LB's adventure over on flickr! And don't forget you just have one more week to earn badges in Connect Your Summer!

Hey kids!
LB earned us another badge from Connect Your Summer. Here's some pictures of him earning the Traveler Badge! He traveled to Massachusetts and, apparently, back in time! He visited Plymouth and saw the Plymouth Rock. Funny. LB says it's in a great big cage. I think they think it may try to run away! And then he got to tour the Mayflower II. It's not the original ship, but is a full-scale replica that sailed from Great Britain to Plymouth in 1957 just like the real Mayflower did! LB says he would have visited Plimoth Plantation as well, but it was over 100 degrees (a little warm for a fur coat!) so he settled on visiting the beach instead.
This has got me wanting to learn more about the Pilgrims, so I checked what we had to offer here at CPL. Found a lot of great books! I didn't really check them out (because I never leave the library) so, if YOU want to, they are all still here! Happy Reading!

Hey kids!
I'm on a roll now! I went to Outdoor Storytime today and earned my Reader badge! I have to admit… it was a little warm outside! But I think that's because I have my big fur coat. Storytime was super fun. I heard neat stories about Dots and a pig who likes pancakes. That second story made me hungry. I like pancakes too! It was so fun to see so many families outside enjoying stories today. I made lots of new friends and had a great time! Head over to Flickr to see the fun we had this morning!

Hey Kids!
We're on a roll now! Thanks to the neat Three Cities Art Show here at the library this weekend, I earned another badge! The Artist Badge! First, I went and looked at all the art work and voted for my favorites. Then, I was feeling inspired, so I asked Miss Michelle to help me find some fun art books. And, Boy! Did she find me some! She even stopped to read a book with me! I like to read books by myself, but I really like to read books with people too. Three Badges down, seven to go. What Badge are you working on?

Hey Kids!
So LB and I have earned our next Connect Your Summer badge. LB had an adventure in Seattle, and we earned the Adventurer Badge! Before he left, I started reading all sorts of books about Washington State, so I knew where LB was going. It's quite a cool state! There are lots of mountains, and ocean. LB even saw a seal!

But the real adventure happened at Pike Place Fish Market. The Market is a lot like Canton's Farmers Market, except that it's open every day and is a lot bigger than ours. And they sell fish! They don't just sell fish, however, they also THROW them! When LB went to the market, they were throwing more than just fish. Here's a video to prove it!

Man. LB gets to have all the fun. Over on Flickr you can see all the other fun things LB did in Seattle, including his visit to Seattle Public Library. LB's just itching to get to go on another adventure soon. I can't wait to see where he goes next!

Goodness! The summer is almost half over! I'm going to have to start working double time on my badges to have them all earned by the end of the summer! Hope you are having fun earning all of yours! Until next time!

Hey Kids!
Boy! I've seen a lot of you here at the library the last couple of days. As you can see from this picture, I was working hard on my reading for Connect-Your-Summer today. I like to do my reading under a tree. It's a good thing we have one here in the library! Do you ever read under trees? I finally figured out what badge LB and I can earn next. It's called the Adventurer Badge! This badge is perfect for LB, because he's always having adventures! Based on the books I'm reading, can you figure out where his next adventure will be? You'll have to keep watching to see if you guess right! And don't forget to tell me what you're doing to earn your Connect Your Summer badges too! I love reading about them!

Hey Kids!
I'm super excited because I just earned my very first Connect Your Summer Badge! I told you that LB and I signed up as team, right? Well. We just got our very first badge... the Multicultural Badge. And it came with a nifty little star on it because we shared what we did with all of you! I read a book called Zoo-Ology by Joelle Jolivet. It's a big huge book (you can see it in my last blog post) with really neat pictures in it. And I learned a little bit about all the different animal cultures that are different than me. LB decided he would study People Culture, so he visited the Canton Historical Society. They have lots of neat stuff there. And LB got to sign his name in the guestbook (he has very nice handwriting) and put a pin on the map where he lives. He brought back lots of pictures to show me, and it sure looks like he had fun!
Boy we both had super lots of fun. We can't wait to earn our next badge! I need some ideas though... What have you done to earn yours? Can't wait to hear all about it!

Hey Kids!
Did you sign up for Connect Your Summer yet? LB and I did today! We are going to tackle it as a team. As you can see, I'm getting a start on my reading for my Multicultural Badge. And LB is off on a little adventure to fulfill another criteria for the badge. That's how we split it up. I really like to read, so I'm going to do all the reading. But I can't really leave the library. That's where LB comes in. He's going to take care of all the off-library-campus activities for me so we can earn badges. It's going to be so much fun! and I've already learned a lot! I can't wait to log into my account and read about all the fun and exciting books you've read and the activities you've participated in too! So don't forget to tell me all about what you're doing over on the Connect Your Summer page!

Hey Kids!
LB went to Chicago for the Memorial Day weekend. Look at the cool sculpture LB is standing by in this picture. It's called Cloud Gate, but most people just call it the Bean. Mmmm. That makes me hungry. Unfortunately, this bean isn't edible. Guess I'll have to check out some books about beans from the library and learn how to grow my own. Have you ever done that? It's pretty easy. And a fun thing to do over the summer… which is almost here! Yay! It's certainly felt like summer the last few days. I can't wait for it to get here.
Until next time!

Hey Kids!
Did you guess where LB was headed next? He just got back from the Dominican Republic! It's half of an island in the Caribbean. He's been there before, because Miss Ruth's sister teaches there. But everytime he goes he has a new adventure. This time LB went to the country and got to see some pretty cool stuff growing! Like Pineapples. Did you know you can plant a pineapple at your house? This website tells you how. He also saw some banana trees and a Cacao tree. That's the kind of tree we get chocolate from! (But take note, Hershey bars don't just grow on trees).
LB got to try a lot of the fruit he saw growing down in the Dominican Republic--Mangos, Pineapples and Bananas. They sure have a lot of yummy food to eat in down there! I might have to try my hand at some Caribbean cooking. Good thing CPL has some books on that subject that I can check out!
LB is so lucky to go to all these neat places that I'm beginning to think his initials stand for Lucky Bear instead of Little Bear. Until next time!

Now that it's getting warmer out, LB has gotten restless. Good thing he's getting to go to lots of different places! In fact, here are some pictures from one of his recent adventures. He traveled to Bonita Springs, FL with Miss Michele! He had a great time! He told me it was warm and sunny down there. So he did lots of swimming.
Looks like he also tried his hand at some alligator wrestling. But don't worry kids. I don't think that's a real alligator. I even checked out some library books about alligators to make sure. Yup! Alligators don't have handles.

Sleepy Bear gave me a shout out in one of his latest blogs, looking for book suggestions. When I'm stumped for something to read, I usually ask the librarians here at CPL for a suggestion. They sure had some great ones!
The Fabled Fourth Graders of Aesop Elementary School by Candace Fleming was suggested by Miss Ruth. It's a bunch of funny short stories that are similar to Aesop's Fables. She said her favorite character was the librarian, whose name is Paige Turner.
Miss Sandra suggested The Trouble with Chickens by Doreen Cronin. It's a mystery where a retired search and rescue dog investigates some missing baby chicks.
I hope that Sleepy Bear finds something to read! Although I think he's reading Junie B. Jones at the moment. There's lots of those books, so he should be pretty busy! :)

Hey Kids!
If you look at this picture of me, you can see I'm not at CPL! The CTTS Staff and I went on a little field trip yesterday. We visited the Novi Public Library! The Novi Library built a brand new building last year and we went to look around. It's a pretty cool place. They even have a race car in the Children's Department called the Novi Special! And there are beautiful tiles to look at too. One even has a dinosaur bone in it. And just like at CPL, there a lots of fun computers to play on and interesting books to check out.
Did you know that Canton Public Library has "reciprocal borrowing privileges" with Novi Library? Those big words mean that CPL is friends with Novi Library, and that your Canton Public Library card works all the way over there! I think that's the coolest thing I learned on my tour. You should go "check out" the Novi Library (just a little library humor there!) but don't forget to come visit me too!

Hey Kids!
I've got new pictures for you! LB just got back from an amazing trip with Marta, who works here at the library! Why was this trip so amazing? Well, first of all, LB went to Phoenix, Arizona. It's sunny there. You probably know about the Grand Canyon, right? well that's in Arizona! And they have Cactus and Grapefruit!
Secondly, LB got to try all kinds of musical instruments at a museum he visited. Makes me want to play an instrument. Maybe I'll learn to play the drums!
And then finally, and most excitingly, LB got to travel by train, car and plane on this trip! He rode the train all the way to Arizona! He told me the train has beds that are like bunk beds. You can see the picture of LB getting ready for bed in the picture up above. He also went to a special train car where you could go get food! I think that would be my favorite spot on the train! That sounds like a pretty fun way to travel. Makes me want to check out some train books right now! Maybe I will… but I'll save some for you too!

So Wednesday was my first book discussion! And I have to say a good time was had by all! You know, you can still read our book discussion? It's over on Sleepy Bear's blog. You may have to scroll down a bit to get to the beginning of the conversation. It's fun to talk to friends about books. I also learned a lot about Sleepy Bear, and his friend Moosey-Moose too. Thanks Sleepy Bear for reading with us! :o)

Hey kids! And Sleepy Bear!
Well, the book discussion is a go! Make sure you come to the library on Wednesday, February 23rd at 2:00PM to talk books with me and Sleepy Bear. It's going to be so fun!
Thanks, Sleepy Bear, for the reminder that you live in a different time zone than we do. I forget that sometimes! We get sunlight and new days before you do, but you get the weather first. Funny how that works. It has been so warm in Michigan the last couple days that we do not have any snow left. But from your blog it sounds like we will be getting some soon!
There are so many kids to watch in the library, that I don't usually get time to read until everyone goes home. But when I do get time to read, I like to to the fish in our fish tank. I don't know if they listen though. What do you like to read? I like books about bears. One of my favorites is Big Smelly Bear by Britta Teckentrup. Have you read it? I hope it's not about me! I'm big but I hope I'm not smelly!
Talk to you Wednesday for our book discussion!

Hey Kids!
Sleepy Bear wrote back! Woo Hoo!
Sleepy Bear — We have had lots of snow here, but it's been kinda warm lately and it's melting. I even saw a robin this week! But I don't think it will be spring here yet. After all, we still have to have Winter Break! What's the weather like by your house?
And speaking of Winter Break, you said you wanted to read a book with us, and guess what? I'm having my very first Book Discussion here at the library that week. Miss Ruth is going to help me here at the library. Now, I don't have much experience hosting a book club, and, I don't talk, so I was hoping you would be a part of my book discussion too! We're going to read Scaredy Squirrel Makes a Friend. I think this would be the perfect book for two bears who a new friends to read. Can't wait to hear what you think!
Well kids, you've heard it from me! If you come to my book discussion during Winter Break, you might just get two bears for the price of one! Oh boy. Am I excited. Can't wait to see you there!

Hey Kids!
Thorndyke here. I found out there's another Blogging Bear, named Sleepy Bear way across the country in the Seattle, Washington area. You can see his blog right here! Now, I haven't met many other bears that blog, so I'm curious and want to be friends. Washington state is really far away. Do you know anything about it? Maybe Sleepy Bear will tell us all about it.
Maybe we can be Cyber Pen Pals! Do you know what pen pals are? Back before there was the internet or email people used to write letters, put stamps on them and put them in the mail to send to people! And then the other person would write back! It took a lot longer than email, but was sure a lot of fun!
So Sleepy Bear, if you're reading this, write back and let's be friends!
What do you think, kids? Will we hear from Sleepy Bear? I sure hope so! Until next time,
Bear Hugs!
