Maybe writing game scripts is your calling. 26 year old Jeffrey Yohalem talks about being the head writer for Assassin's Creed Brotherhood in this article. Who would have guessed?!

Video Games Actually Lead To Workplace Success

A new study from the University of Colorado Denver Business School has determined that employees who are trained on video game software are much more likely to retain the information they had learned. However, it was found that not all video games were equally as good when it comes to training. Video games with active participation were more effective then games with a more passive theme. Who says games are only for children?

Video Games Are Going Green

Ubisoft is starting a new environmental initiative by no longer including paper game manuals in XBox 360 or PS3 games, instead these manuals will be available online. Ubisoft said, "internal data shows that producing one ton of paper used in its game manuals consumes around two tons of wood from 13 trees, with a net energy of 28 million BTUs — the average heating and energy for one home per year." But that isn't all they are doing to be more 'green'. Ubisoft is also partnering with Technimark to make new games cases that are made of 100% recycled materials.

Rumors of Nintendo New Console Hardware?

It looks like all the buzz about the next generation Wii console and new Nintendo hand held systems is just talk at this point. In an interview with Gamespot, Nintendo of America marketing head Cammie Dunaway denies any notion of new console hardware coming in the next year. However, she did say, "Part of Nintendo’s heritage is to always be looking at innovation, and to always start working on the next hardware every time we launch a platform, so we’ll have it ready when the time is right."

A Dog Named Zelda

I often visit a blog called HardestLevel. It is a great video game blog with lots of reviews and interesting posts about gamer culture. Today I stumbled on a post about naming pets after video game characters. The author has a dog he named "Zelda". Many others posted, that they too had named their pets after video game characters. So, this got me wondering, have any of you named your pets after games or game characters?

email@cantonpl.org

You might be able to help us save some of your tax dollars by allowing us to put your email address in your patron record. We won’t send you anything except circulation notices — the item you put on hold is ready to be picked up, the library materials you have out will be due back in two days, reminders of materials you haven’t returned yet — that we would otherwise have to send by printed notices or telephone message. In fact, our “courtesy notices”, those messages we send two days before your items are due back to the library, can only be sent by email — and you’re missing out (and possibly paying overdue fines) if we don’t have your email address. Using email to contact you is also GREEN! We won’t be using paper or postage if we can contact you by email. Just stop at the Checkout Desk and give a staff member your email address, and if you don’t have an email address, ask a librarian at the Reference Desk how you can get started.
