The Black Parade

Are you looking for some good rock music to listen to that you may not have heard when it first came out? The Black Parade is without a doubt my favorite CD so far of this past decade and definitely deserves to be listened to.

Thorndyke Thoughts

Hi Kids!  Thorndyke here!  Did you know that today—March 19th –is Absolutely Incredible Kid Day?   And since all the kids who come to the Canton Public Library are absolutely incredible, it’s a very important day to celebrate.   My favorite way?  With a song!  Maybe "Skinnamarink" by Sharon, Lois, and Bram. Another great way is with ice cream!  May I suggest the flavor Bear Claw?  It’s my favorite!   Have a great week, kids!

Get Your Irish Up with some Celtic Music on St. Patrick's Day!

Defining "Celtic music," contemporary or not, can be an exercise in frustration. Even among the experts, reaching consensus isn't easy. To many people, Celtic music might be described as "I don't know how to define it, but I know it when I hear it." The focus of this Special Collection is the style and feel of music often associated with Ireland and Scotland, plus Wales, the Maritime provinces of Canada, along with parts of Spain, France and even England.

If it's going to keep raining...

...might as well listen to some watery tunes.  Johnette Downing has a pleasant alto voice combined with fun lyrics and real instruments to keep your spirits up, even in this rainy weather!  Check out her album, Fins and Grins and learn about some crazy creatures of the deep while you rock and wiggle along.  Like her sound?  Why not try some of her other fun kids CDs?

"Get on your Boots" with U2

Celebrate St. Patrick's day early with the Irish band's first album in 5 years. "No Line on the Horizon" has just been released and is receiving rave reviews. Find more of U2's nearly 30 years of chart crashing songs here at CPL.

St. Patrick's Day Music

Are you are planning a ceilidh for St Patrick's Day? It is never to early to put together a playlist.

Transformin' the Blues

Derek TrucksThe new CD by The Derek Truck Band, Already Free, is a good example of how root forms of the blues have been transformed, yet preserved, by rock music.  Trucks has an excellent pedigree in Southern blues-rock, taking up Duane Allman's mantel as the best living slide guitarist and incorporating a range of world music influences into his playing.

Good music for little (and big) ears

If you're looking for some good peaceful tunes to play for naptime or quiet times, you and your child will enjoy these CDs.  Be sure you're not too sleep deprived when you listen to them or they'll soothe you right off to dreamland too!

This is their third effort, not counting a compilation they also put out, and they just keep getting better and better.
