And since all the kids who come to the Canton Public Library are absolutely incredible, it’s a very important day to celebrate. My favorite way? With a song! Defining "Celtic music," contemporary or not, can be an exercise in frustration. Even among the experts, reaching consensus isn't easy. To many people, Celtic music might be described as "I don't know how to define it, but I know it when I hear it." The new CD by The Derek Truck Band, Already Free, is a good example of how root forms of the blues have been transformed, yet preserved, by rock music. Trucks has an excellent pedigree in Southern blues-rock, taking up Duane Allman's mantel as the best living slide guitarist and incorporating a range of world music influences into his playing.
