After you've spent your day celebrating the launch of Connect Your Summer 2013, have fun storming the castle with this family-friendly fractured fairy tale! We'll show the movie. We'll provide the popcorn. All we need is your love for dread pirates, fireswamp adventures, battles (of strength, agility and wit), rodents of unusual size and "twue wuv"!

And don't forget to stop by the Geek Out table during the CYS kickoff and complete a Nerd Knowledge quiz! Completed quizzes can be put into a drawing for summer movie passes from Goodrich Theaters. Holes [videodisc] by Walt Disney Pictures presents in association with Walden Media a Chicago Pacific Entertainment & Phoenix Pictures production, an Andrew Davis film — Based on the Newbery winning children's book, this camp adventure starring Shia LaBeouf is 10 years old this year. It has it all...humor, adventure, family, friendship, and stinky shoes.


The Sandlot [videodisc] by Twentieth Century Fox in association with Island World ; a David Mickey Evans film ; written by David Mickey Evans & Robert Gunter ; produced by Dale de la Torre, William S. Gilmore ; directed by David Mickey Evans — If you haven't seen this classic baseball adventure in the 25 years since it came out, you need to rectify it.  A newcomer to town makes friends and faces fears while learning the fine game of baseball on his local Sandlot.

Climate of doubt [videodisc]: the politics of global warming by written by John Hockenberry, Catherine Upin ; directed by Catherine Upin — An examination of the shift in political attitudes towards global warming in the United States.


Collapse [videodisc] — The economic predictions of investigative journalist Michael Ruppert regarding the possible global financial meltdown and major social change that could result if oil dependence continues unabated.

Science Squibs

Looking for fun science videos? If you've enjoyed Bill Nye and the Magic School Bus, you should  discover the Squibs series.  These DVDs created for upper elementary students teach science concepts such as weather, cells, chemistry and the laws of motion with fun animated characters and songs.  The series was developed by Ignite! Learning, which develops Digital Learning materials for schools.   And they have a very similar feel to the popular book series Basher Science. Check one out today!


Mad Men returns on April 7!

Mad Men  returns to the airwaves on Sunday, April 7 at 9:00 PM on AMC.  The two-hour premiere of the series' 6th season continues the story of Don Draper and his colleagues at the New York City advertising agency Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. When we last saw Don and the gang it was the spring of 1967 and they were all at crossroads in both their personal and professional lives. Providing additional backdrop to the series is the political and social upheaval of the 1960s. If you're a new viewer - or just want to watch again - you can catch up now with Mad Men  seasons 1-5 from the Library's collection. Welcome back Don Draper!

Actor Richard Griffiths Dies at 65

AP ImagesRichard Griffiths (July 31, 1947-March 29, 2013) the versatile British actor who played Harry Potter's unsympathetic Uncle Vernon in the "Harry Potter" movies, has died. He was 65.  Griffiths was well-known to theater-goers as well as movie-goers. He played Uncle Monty in the popular British series, Withnail and I won a Tony Award for his portrayal of Douglas Hector, an English teacher in Alan Bennet's The History Boys
and DI Henry Crabbe in Pie in the Sky.

Are you a Canton resident unable to come to the library due to a permanent or long-term illness or disability or an older adult (65+) without a way to get to the library? Canton Public Library offers Books by Mail service to Canton residents. Every month a librarian will select books/audiobooks/DVDs based upon your preferences, to be delivered to your home postage free. When done return them to the Canton Public Library in the postage-paid mailer provided.
