Movie Madness HORROR edition: Locked in a Room

Locked in a Room is a story about three teenagers that are trapped in three separate rooms. They are monitored and watched by a masked man who "takes notes" as to their every move and emotion. They are further tormented by an eerie voice of someone outside of the room and are visited by strange characters that are part of the outfit that have them trapped. Throughout, they try to discern why they are there. As time elapses... the stakes and chances for survival are slim, but the question remains: who is behind this - the end reveals a startling answer.
On Thursday, October 23 at 7:00 PM Plymouth film maker and CEO of At Risk Entertainment, Larry Simmons, will screen his haunting tale. Locked in a Room has been featured at the San Diego Black Film Festival, has been distributed in Germany, Austria and Switzerland looks forward to distribution in Spanish speaking countries such as Brazil and Mexico. Stick around afterward the screening for a rousing Q&A with the film maker himself. Check out the official trailer here and be spooked out just in time for Halloween! This film is not rated but does include mature language and themes and is recommended for people ages 13 and up.

Canton Seniors Book Discussion: September 25, 2014

Canton Seniors Book Group will meet on Thursday, September 25 from 2:00-3:00PM in Canton Public Library's Group Study Room A.  We will be discussing Mark Zusak THE BOOK THIEF.  Copies of the book can be requested at the Information Services Desk.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.  1939. Nazi Germany. Death has never been busier and is going to become even more so.  Orphaned Liesel Meminger is living outside of Munich, scratching out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist-books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, Liesel learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement.

Remembering Robin Williams

Beloved actor and comedian Robin Williams passed away on August 11th at the age of 63. The Canton Public Library carries a wide selection of films starring Mr. Williams including Aladdin, Good Morning Vietnam, Mrs. Doubtfire and The World According to Garp.  Feel free to laugh or cry with the work of this American legend. Follow the link for a list of his works in our collection.

TV shows coming to hoopla!

Starting on July 1st, the library will be adding TV episodes to its hoopla offering. Thousands of movies, TV programs, music and audiobooks are available to library patrons to stream or download on their PCs or mobile devices. Borrowing and returning items is quick and easy. Once the lending period has expired (3 days for movies and TV, 7 days for music, and 21 days for audiobooks), titles are automatically returned to the library. Use your CPL card to open a hoopla account. You can check out up to 20 items per month from your hoopla account.
