Author Ray Bradbury 1920-2012
Legendary writer Ray Bradbury has passed away at the age of 91. Author of classics such as Fahrenheit 451 and The Martian Chronicles, Bradbury saw several of his works turned into movies, among them The Illustrated Man and Something Wicked This Way Comes. His career of over 70 years earned him many honors, including 2000 National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters, the 2004 National Medal of Arts, and a 2007 Pulitzer Prize Special Citation.

Leo Dillon, 1933-2012
Leo Dillon, award-winning illustrator, has passed away at the age of 79. Working in collaboration with his wife Diane, Dillon illustrated numerous picture books for children, including the Caldecott Medal winners Why Mosquitoes Buzz In People's Ears and Ashanti To Zulu: African Traditions. The Dillons also created illustrations for the Madeleine L'Engle novels A Wrinkle In Time and A Swiftly Tilting Planet.Leo and Diane Dillon were also famous for their cover artwork for adult science fiction novels, winning the Hugo Award in 1971 for Best Professional Artist.
The Golden Gate Bridge Turns 75
San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge turns 75 on May 27. On that day in 1937 over 200,000 people crossed the bridge on foot and roller skates. The bridge links the City of San Francisco with Marin County. Singer Tony Bennett immortalized the Golden Gate Bridge in the song "(I Left My Heart) In San Francisco". Construction on the bridge began on January 5, 1933 and ultimately cost $35million. Take a virtual walk across the bridge, read about the history of this world famous bridge, or watch the Golden Gate Bridge being constructed.

Canton Seniors Book Discussion Group June 2012
Canton Seniors Book Discussion Group will meet on Wednesday, June 27 from 2:00-3:00 PM at Canton Public Library in Group Study Room A. This month we are discussing
Old friends by Tracy Kidder — What is it like to grow old in America? Two men, strangers to each other, are assigned to share a room upon moving into a western Massachusetts nursing home. Kidder spotlights the friendship which blooms between Joe, an irascible 72 year old stroke victim, and gentle Lou, 90 and almost blind, who grieves for his deceased wife, tells rambling stories about his past and worries about Joe. Author Tracy Kidder has won Pulitzer Prizes for fiction and non-fiction.

Local Author Event
Join us on Thursday, May 17 at 7:00 PM as we welcome local authors to share their craft, their insights and their books. We have everything from children's to fitness to romance, real-life adventure, a novel and self-help books to satisfy everyone's interest. Refreshments will be provided as you peruse the individual authors' tables and discuss their books with them.
