2011 Donor Recognition

To thank our community for its generous support, we've installed a donor acknowledgement near the front door, by the Reception Desk. As our budget has declined over the last few years, your financial contributions are very important in helping us support our programs and services. Check it out next time you are in the library. Get more information on our 2012 budget or ways to make a contribution. To see what we accomplished with your help in 2011, take a look at our annual report.

Girl Scouts Spearhead Book Donation Drive

Girl Scouts Maha Zahid and Christina Christianson need your help to restock Detroit's Bennet Elementary School library, which was destroyed by fire. Bring in your new or gently-used books (for ages preschool through grade 5) to the Canton Public Library through this Sunday (July 17). Chapter books, accelerated reader books and reference books (dictionaries, thesauruses and encyclopedias) are needed the most. The pair organized the book drive as a community project to demonstrate the leadership skills necessary to achieve the Girl Scout Cadette's Silver Award.

Friends of the Canton Public Library Make $10,000 Donation

CANTON, MI — Friends of the Canton Public Library treasurer Larry Hoelscher had a big smile and a big check for Canton Public Library trustee Michael Siegrist and library director Eva Davis. He and outgoing Friends president Peg Britz presented a check for $10,000, earmarked for the library’s endowment fund, during their annual membership meeting on Wednesday.

The donation is the result of book sales and fundraising efforts by the Friends group, who have contributed more than $64,000 to the library in the past year. The Friends sponsor programs and events at the library such as Connect Your Summer, and purchase materials for the Michigan History, International Language and other collections.

Free Press Reader Contest Can Benefit CPL

You could help the Canton Public Library get $500 and win yourself a one-of-a-kind experience with Free Press Sports Editor Gene Myers in the Free Press Reader Envy contest. Vote for Gene and you could win an experience that includes a tour of the Free Press building, sitting in on a news meeting in which decisions are made for all sections of the paper, lunch at a downtown spot, watching the sports section come together, and other surprises. Plus, if Gene wins, the library will get a $500 donation. Enter the contest at the Free Press website. Deadline for entry is July 31, 2010. Review the contest rules.
