Affordable Care Act Marketplaces

The Affordable Care Act Marketplaces (Exchanges) are scheduled to open on October 1st. This is where we will go to find the best solution to our individual and family health care insurance needs. Since this is a new experience for all of us, we need a little guidance and information to be successful, thrifty and healthy. David Huntzicker of Kapnick Insurance Group will be our guide as we begin our search. David will explain the categories and the time lines we will all need to be aware of, as well as all the options available to us.

Free Summit on Veteran's Benefits

A free educational summit on Veterans Administration benefits will be held Wednesday, September 22 at Laurel Manor in Livonia. The event — co-sponsored by the Canton Community Foundation — is open to veterans, their families and friends and will feature speakers and counselors on healthcare and disability benefits, homebound services and more. Older Americans: 2010

Today’s older Americans enjoy longer lives and better health than did previous generations. These and other trends are reported in Older Americans 2010: Key Indicators of Well-Being, a unique, comprehensive look at aging in the United States from the Federal Interagency Forum on Aging-Related Statistics. Five broad areas—population, economics, health status, health risks and behaviors, and health care were examined.

Caring for an older family member or friend? Getting on in years yourself? NIHSeniorHealth.gov, the health and wellness website for older adults, has recently added seven short videos about Medicare coverage to its Medicare Basics for Caregivers.

More Online Resources for Michigan Seniors

The Michigan Attorney General's office has established an online resource center for Michigan's seniors at Senior Brigade. This website is a clearinghouse for helpful information on consumer protection, financial matters, health care issues and veterans' services. It provides links to a wide variety of state and federal programs to help make informed decisions that can benefit you and your family. A calendar of senior events around the state is also available. The website is maintained by Attorney General Mike Cox's office.

Get the Facts about Health Care Reform

Confused about the debate over health care reform? President Obama has unveiled a new "Reality Check" site to help you get the facts on this very important issue. The site has fact sheets, videos, and links to related sites such as Health Reform.gov. It also allows users to receive updates via Twitter and Facebook.
