Looking for a Fun Family Vacation Before School Starts?

Start with one of the Michigan adventures in the new book The 10 Best of Everything Families : An Ultimate Guide for Travelers by Susan H. Magsamen. Will it be a trip to the Sleeping Bear Dunes, Mackinac Island, Greenfield Village or just a Sunday ride to the Diary Store at Michigan State University? Organized regionally and thematically, from the local to the national and the international (itineraries for Cape Town, London, Vancouver, and Hong Kong), the book is filled with ten-best lists, sidebars, maps, and more. A perfect resource for planning a week-long vacation with grandparents, a dream trip across the country, or a short getaway close to home.

Free Passes to State Parks Available Now!

Just in time for summer vacation, Park & Read passes have arrived at the library. A joint venture of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Macy's, the Hammock Company, and the Library of Michigan, the Park & Read program provides a free one-day vehicle permit to any Michigan State Park & Recreation Area - and at many parks, a free hammock to use for the day. Like the popular Museum Adventure Pass program, the passes are "checked out" for seven days; you pick the day you want to use it. So come in for a pass & a book to read while lolling in that hammock.
