Michigan Teaching Fellowship

Governor Jennifer Granholm announced on Friday that the state was awarded a $16.7 million grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation to establish a fellowship for the recruitment of future math and science teachers. The Fellows, who will be announced in spring of 2011, will receive a stipend of $30,000 to complete a master's program and must fulfill a commitment to teach for at least 3 years in an urban school setting.

Becoming a Teacher

In today's Detroit Free Press, teaching programs at Marygrove and University of Detroit Mercy are at risk of closing based on low scores on the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification. There are 31 colleges and universities that offer teacher preparation programs in the state. Andrews University got the highest score.
