Mystery Series Week

The Purple Moon Press has declared October 2-11 Mystery Series Week-2011. Of course, every mystery fan is familiar with the Sherlock Holmes series by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Dame Agatha Christie's Hercules Poiroit, Miss Marple, or Tommy and Tuppence. If you are looking for something new, there are dozen of series such as Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus, or Janet Evanovich's comic Stephanie Plum. For more reading suggestions, check Canton Public Library's mystery posts and May We Suggest.

Hooked on Mysteries?

What grabs you when you pick up a book?  The characters?  The setting?  The time? Do you want to laugh out loud? Or be 'scared out of your pants'?  Did you know that it isn't until the fourth or fifth book in a series that you get hooked?  If you are looking for interesting (i.e. quirky) characters try Jeff Lindsay's Dexter, or Charlaine Harris' Harper Connelly.  Interested in setting?  Check out Grace Brophy's Italy or Karin Fossum's Norway.  Laugh out loud?  Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum is well known, but have you tried Deb Baker's Yooper Mystery series featuring Gertie Johnson?  I don't like being scared, so which author's mystery stories frighten you?
