Open Chess

Tim Heller, avid chess player, hosts informal open play on the second and fourth Sundays of most months while providing instruction and pointers on improving your game. Beginners welcome.

The fourth Sunday of the month also includes a tournament by "Library Chess Clubs." For tournament information and registration, please email clubchess@wowway.com.

Adult Writers' Group

Learn how to create greeting cards, certificates or brochures with Microsoft Publisher and volunteer instructor Asha on Wednesday, February 1 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. Prerequisite: Mouse and keyboarding skills.

Author Jeffrey Zaslow Visits

This event has been canceled due to the death of the guest of honor.

Wall Street journalist and bestselling author Jeffrey Zaslow pays us a visit. Zaslow is best known for such amazing books as The Last Lecture, The Girls from Ames, Gabby: a story of courage and hope and many more. His newest novel, The Magic Room debuted in January and recounts the hopes, dreams and transformations of thousands of women who visit The Magic Room in Becker's Bridal Salon in Fowler, Michigan at one of the most important moments of their lives. Please join us on Thursday, February 23 at 7:00 PM for a very special evening.

Raw Food Demo with Chef Tobias Perry

To help promote Canton Township's 100 Days to Health initiative, we welcome local chef Tobias Perry who will demonstrate recipes for vegans, vegetarians and all foodies using only a blender and a food processor on Thursday, February 16 at 7:00 PM.

The Underground Railroad in Michigan by Carol Mull

In the mid-nineteenth century, Michigan citizens rose up to protest the moral offense of slavery. Among other campaigns, the Underground Railroad was established as a network of escape from slavery. Local author Carol Mull shares first-person accounts with an historical overview as we continue our celebration of Black History Month. Join us on Thursday, February 9 at 7:00 PM for this meaningful evening.

Canton Christian Fellowship Praise Choir

We are celebrating Black History Month with the return visit of the Praise Choir from the Canton Christian Fellowship Church under the direction of music director Darren Patterson. Come join the celebration on Thursday, February 2 at 7:00 PM.

Target Family Reading Night: Life's a Beach Luau

Break out the Sunscreen! Sport your sunglasses and dig those flip-flops out of hibernation. There's no better way to beat the winter blues than to spend a night enjoying beach themed stories, games and crafts. Children ages 5 to 8 and their families are invited to join us on Thursday January 12th at 7:00 PM in the Community Room. Registration begins on December 29th.

Baby Storytime

Designed for babies up to 18 months, these storytimes feature simple stories, songs and fingerplays. Register online beginning January 3.

Holidays Around the World

Celebrate the season with joyous music and cheer presented by the musical group Harpbeat. This interactive program is for children ages 4-9 with their caregivers and is funded by the Target Store Early Childhood Reading Grant and the Friends of the Canton Public Library.
