Family Fun Night: Caldecott Celebration

Caldecott BooksThe 75th Caldecott Medal was awarded this January to This Is Not My Hat. We're celebrating 75 years of amazing picture book art with a party at the library. Families with kids ages 5 to 9 years old are invited to join us for games, crafts and a story or two. Registration required.
Program Date: Thursday, May 16 at 7:00 PM in the Community Room.

Baby Storytime

Designed for babies up to 18 months old with a caregiver, Baby Storytime features simple stories, songs, and fingerplays. These sessions are held in the Purple Room.

Session begins Tuesday, April 30, 10:00 AM.

Vote for your Favorite Caldecott

In honor of the 75th Caldecott Medal awarded this year, we are polling patrons for their favorite book.  Come into the Children's Library during February to browse our reference collection of Caldecott winners, and then submit a vote for your favorite.  The winning book will be read at a special Caldecott Celebration in March.

We are now offering two sessions for Baby Storytime, please register online for one timeslot. Session #1 is held Tuesday mornings at 10:00 AM, Session #2 is held Thursday afternoons at 1:00 PM.  Registration opens December 27.

eReader Users Group

Join library staff and other eReader users as we share eBook tips and tricks in an informal environment. Group will meet Thursday, November 15th from 7:00-8:00 PM in Meeting Room A.

eReader Basics

Join us Saturday, November 10th from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM to learn the basics of how to check out free library eBooks and read them on your Kindle, Nook, iPad or other device. Watch a live demo.

The 5 session series begins November 13, 10:00 AM and runs through December 11.

Family Storytime Halloween Party

Kids age five and under, with a caregiver, are invited to hear Halloween stories, eat snacks, make a craft, and trick-or-treat around the library. Program will take place in the Community Room Wednesday, October 31st at 10:00 AM.

August Make and Take

Kids going into grades 3rd through 5th can join us at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 3rd for our August Make and Take. We'll be making a book out of paper lunch bags that has compartments for hiding secret messages.

Movie and a Craft Be a Detective

Children ages 2 to 5 years old and their caregivers are invited to join us in the Community Room on Wednesday, August 8th.  We'll be watching Caillou solve mysteries and then make a craft to use when we explore our own world.

Movie and Craft Olympics edition

In honor of the Olympics, chidren ages 2 to 5 and the their caregivers are invited to join us in the Community Room to watch a short sports themed movie and make a craft.

Make Your Own Ice Cream

Did you know that July is National Ice Cream month? Celebrate here at the library on Monday July 23 by making your own ice cream. Kids going into grades 1st through 4th and their caregivers are welcome join us. Please register for one time slot, beginning Tuesday, June 26th. Rain location will be in the Community Room. Program times are as follows:

Family Storytime Picnic

Families with children ages five and under are invited to bring their lunch and enjoy a storytime outside behind the library. All storytimes will be at Noon. Rain location will be in the Community Room. Program Dates:

Very Hungry Caterpillar Fun

On Saturday, May 26th at 2:00PM in the Community Room, families with children ages 2 to 5 are invited to join us for a program filled with activities focused on the well loved children's book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We will hear the story, make a craft and even eat like the caterpillar in the story. Registration is required and begins on Thursday April 26th at 9:00 AM.

Program Date: Saturday, May 26th at 2:00 PM in the Community Room.

Adult Writers' Group

Interested in writing? Join other adults to share your work, get feedback and discuss the craft of writing. We will meet on Saturday, May 26 at 2:00 PM.

Tamil Storytime

All ages may enjoy a storytime program in Tamil presented by Sivakami Rajendran

Living Green in Southeast Michigan

To celebrate Earth Week, we have invited Granton Brooks, the communications specialist from SEMCOG to share the many earth-friendly projects supported by SEMCOG in his Living Green in Southeast Michigan program. Did you know that they declare Ozone Action Days for our region or that they sponsor the Michigan Rideshare program or the studies of water run-off? SEMCOG impacts our community in many ways. Come see how they can help your earth-friendly everyday life on Monday, April 23 at 7:00 PM.

Composting and Healthy Lawns
