Family Storytime

Family Storytimes begin the week of January 16. These storytimes are designed for children ages 5 and under with a caregiver. Storytimes are held in the Community Room and do not require registration. Saturday sessions are in the Purple Room.
  • Mondays, 10:00-10:30 AM and 1:00-1:30 PM
  • Tuesdays, 7:00-7:30 PM
  • Wednesdays, 10:00-10:30 AM and 7:00-7:30 PM
  • Thursdays, 10:00-10:30 AM
  • Fridays, 10:00-10:30 AM
  • Saturdays, 10:00-10:30 AM

Baby Storytime

Designed for babies up to 18 months, these storytimes feature simple stories, songs and fingerplays. Register online beginning January 3.

Session begins: Tuesday, January 17, 10:00 AM

Snowflakes, No Two Alike

No two alike by Keith Baker — Snowflakes come in all shapes and sizes, with no two alike. This beautiful and simple picture book follows a pair of birds on a snowflake-filled journey through a winter landscape, where everything everywhere, from branches and leaves to forests full of trees, is unique, just like you and me!

Monkey with a Toolbelt… Continued

Monkey with a tool belt and the seaside shenanigans by Chris Monroe — Have you met Chico the monkey, and his tool belt? If not, you are missing one handy monkey. In this new adventure, Chico helps his friend Clark the elephant fix many problems at a seaside resort. Chico has to fix the leaky boat, the broken sprinkler, and a hole in the roof. But his biggest challenge in the water slide. Can he fix it? Check out the book to find out! There are more Monkey with a Tool Belt adventures available at the library. Maybe Chico can show you how to fix something at your house?

Ten Little Caterpillars

Ten little caterpillars by Bill Martin Jr. ; illustrated by Lois Ehlert — Bill Martin, Jr's posthumous work, originally published in 1967, brings to life the adventures of 10 caterpillars as they visit flower gardens, vegetable patches, and apple orchards, all before transforming into beautiful butterflies. This rhyming text is fun for all ages, and the beautiful artwork of Lois Ehlert is spectacular.

ZooZical a Musical Story

Have you ever wondered what zoo animals do when the visitors go home? Do they go to sleep, eat lots of food, play games? Well the zoo animals of ZooZical decide to put on a musical after all their visitors go home. In their musical, they sing some classic songs, but in a new, zooified way. Check out ZooZical, and enjoy they amazing talents of the giraffes, lions, kangaroos and one very special hippo.

This may even inspire you to read about more talented animals!

Chicken Fun

Celebrate National Chicken Month with a special storytime on Saturday, September 24, from 2:00-2:45 PM. Children, ages 3-6 with a caregiver, enjoy some silly chicken stories, make a chicken craft and see why the chicken crossed the road. Registration begins September 10.

Storytime at Canton Farmer's Market

On Sunday, August 14, CPL staff visits the Canton Farmer's Market to host a storytimes and crafts. The Canton Farmer's Market is open from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM Storytimes are at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. For all ages.

Outdoor Stories

Hey Families,
We're going to have a family program outside this summer with stories, songs/activities. Bring a blanket and a snack and be prepared to join in. You can even get an entertainment badge for this in our Connect Your Summer program. The program will be July 20, from 10:00 to 10:45AM.

Fun in the Garden Storytime

Children, ages 5 and under, and caregivers, join us Monday, June 27 at 10:00AM for a family storytime all about gardens. We will share stories of vegetables and flowers outside by the library garden (weather permitting). We will also make a beautiful craft and enjoy a special treat. Registration begins Monday, June 13.

That's How

Parents, how many times a day do you hear "Why?" or "How?" How many different ways can you answer that? Author Christopher Niemann tries to help you answer those questions with his new picture book, That's How. Here, many questions about how things work are answered in a simple, straightforward way. Kids of all ages will enjoy discovering how things work! If you are looking for more stories to answer those never ending whys and hows, check out childrens question and answer stories.

Tooth Fairies

Hey kids, have you lost a tooth recently? Ever wondered how the tooth fairy came to visit you? Now you can go on an adventure with April and Esme Tooth Fairies to find out. April and Esme get a special request from Daniel's Grandma to make their first ever "tooth visit" on the title page of this book. Discover what it takes to be a tooth fairy and what they do if the child begins to wake up. If you liked April and Esme, you may enjoy our other tooth fairy adventures.

Let's Go Fly a Kite

April is National Kite Month and we want to share this spring fun with you. At this program on Tuesday, April 12 at 7 p.m., you will be able to make a simple craft to take home and enjoy on those windy spring days. Families with children ages 4-9 can attend this program funded by the Target Store Early Childhood Reading Grant and the Friends of the Canton Public Library. Program includes stories, games and snacks. Participants receive a free book. Register today for this fun, family program.

Chicken Big

It's not a squirrel, it's not an umbrella, it's Chicken Big! In this hilarious tale of a very large creature, we get to use our investigation skills to discover exactly what this very large, yellow creature is. Is it a sweater, or an elephant? You'll have to read it to find out!

We have many other chicken adventures to choose from, maybe even a Chicken Little!

Fairy Tale Fun Family Storytime

This family storytime is for princes and princesses of all ages. Bring your queen or king (mom or dad) to a royal storytime of fanciful fairytales on Saturday, December 4 from 2:00-3:00PM. We will read stories and make a fancy magical craft. Dress in royal regalia and enjoy being noble for a day!

Seuss on the Loose!

Hey kids! Join us and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters for a storytime filled with fun, crafts, games, and, of course, good books! No registration required.

Storytime Resource

This website is a helpful resource for teachers, librarians and parents of young children. Instructors walk readers through various songs and rhymes in video clips.  It is helpful to see the rhyme done with motions, as well as reading the words that are being said.
