St. Patrick's Day
This Saturday, March 17 is St. Patrick's Day. This day is held in honor of St. Patrick, who brought Christianity to the Irish people in the 400's A.D. Over 34 million Americans have some Irish in their blood. But don't worry if you don't. Everyone is at least a little Irish on this day. So wear some green, try some corned beef and cabbage, and "may the wind be always at your back."Holiday Hours 2011

New Holiday Videos
Every year in December a bumper crop of new Holiday Kids Movies makes their debut. This year is no exception with many of the new films starring characters kids recognize from their favorite movies. Many of these movies are available at CPL now, with more on the way in the coming weeks. These are great solutions when you need some down time to make dinner (or squirrel away to wrap some gifts). Here are some of this year's offerings:
Merry Madagascar [videodisc] by DreamWorks Animation LLC
Penguins of Madagascar [videodisc]: The all-nighter before Xmas
Christmas with the chipmunks [videodisc] by Bagdasarian Productions LLC
Happy Birthday U.S.A.

Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch stole Christmas!
White Christmas
Christmas in Connecticut
Thanksgiving Picture Books
Gus, the pilgrim turkey by Teresa Bateman ; illustrated by Ellen Joy Sasaki
The Berenstain Bears' Thanksgiving by Stan & Jan Berenstain
An old-fashioned Thanksgiving by Louisa May Alcott ; illustrated by James Bernardin
Celebrate Children's Book Week with Olivia
Next week, May 11-17, is Children's Book Week! Librarians will be dressing as different children's book characters, and you are welcome to join the fun. I've got three different costumes ready to go for next week - it was really hard to choose my favorites! Spend the weekend working on your costume, or celebrating with this year's featured children's book character, Olivia, by reading some of her books. Put on Your Dancing Shoes
