Although Earth Day is officially celebrated once a year - on April 22 - the Library has a great collection of environmentally-themed documentaries that are available all year round. From wildlife to climate change, from recycling to alternate energy, we have it covered!

Where will you be when the lights go out?

Earth hour Earth hour 2009 is Saturday, March 28 starting at 8:30 p.m. From the Earth hour website: "World Wildlife Fund is asking individuals, businesses, governments and organizations around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – Earth Hour – to make a global statement of concern about climate change and to demonstrate commitment to finding solutions."  For more information, visit the website, http://www.earthhourus.org/ .

Global Warming Severity Underestimated

DroughtIn a recent article in The Guardian, scientists warn that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) substantially underestimated the severity of global warming over the rest of the century in their most recent report on climate change. In reponse, former US vice-president Al Gore called for a globally coordinated stimulus to tackle climate change.
