It takes a long time to grow an old friend

Girls From AmesJeffrey Zaslow, columnist for the Wall Street Journal and co-author of "The Last Lecture," has written a journalistic account of the lifelong friendship between 11 girls born in Ames, Iowa, in 1962-1963. The book, "The Girls from Ames: A Story of Women & a Forty-Year Friendship," describes the turning points in women's friendships and why women, more than men, hang onto their longterm friends.

Farewell, My Subaru

Farewell, My SubaruFarewell, My Subaru: An Epic Adventure in Local Living is Doug Fine's autobiographical account of his radical lifestyle change from nomadic journalist to sustainable desert rancher. Missing Money

Four years ago, a high school friend of mine called me and told me that  he had seen my name on the "missingmoney.com" website as having a check for less than $100.00 in the Michigan Department of the Treasury "Missing Money" account.  I went to the website, filled out the downloadable application and 3 weeks or so thereafter, I had a check in the mail for $75.00.

I thought, because of these difficult financial times, and because The Canton Public Library has a duty and a purpose to help the Community and our Patrons get through them, that I would share the website, which is  www.missingmoney.com.  This website is subscribed to by the Treasury Department of 26 states, and 2 Canadian Provinces.  It is not one of those "Send us some money, and we'll what happens" sites.
