New Chinese Books

Today our first new Chinese books of 2009 go on the shelf. Happy Birthday Mia Hamm and "Sugar Ray" Leonard

This sunny May 17th, we have two high profile birthdays to celebrate. It is the birthday of boxer "Sugar Ray" Leonard born on this date in 1956 and also soccer player, Mia Hamm, who was born on this date in 1972. Both of these figures have had illustrious careers in their sports field and we wish them a heartfelt happy birthday! Be sure to check out our books on both of these famous, amazing athletes!

The Social Security Administration recently released its annual list of the country's most popular baby names, and for the first time since 1995 the most popular girl's name is not Emily. The new winner is Emma, followed by Isabella, Emily, Madison and Ava. The name Jacob retained its top spot on the boy's list for the tenth straight year, followed by Michael, Ethan, Joshua and Daniel.

The Transcontinental Railroad

During the Civil War, Congress had enacted legislation providing for the construction of a transcontinental line to be be built by two separate companies. Cash for Clunkers Bill

President Obama and members of the United States House of Representatives have reached an agreement on a bill that could offer as many as one million vehicle buyers a voucher for up to $4,500. Designed to help the struggling automotive industry, these vouchers could be applied to passengers cars, trucks and work vehicles. Under this plan, old passenger cars and trucks being traded in would have to get less than 18 m.p.g. Stay tuned as details are hammered out.
