Today the American Library Association announced the top youth books and media of 2019, including the Pura ​Belpré Awards. The Pura ​Belpré Awards are given by the Association for Library Services to Children to a Latinx writer and illustrator whose children's books best portray, affirm, and celebrate the Latino cultural experience.

The American Library Association announced the top books, video and audio books for children and young adults, including the Randolph Caldecott Award. This award goes to the illustrator of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

2016 Caldecott Medal Winner

A woman tells her young son the true story of how his great-great-grandfather, Captain Harry Colebourn, rescued and learned to love a bear cub in 1914 as he was on his way to take care of soldiers' horses during World War I, and the bear became the inspiration for A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh.

Today the American Library Association announced its Youth Book & Media Awards, including the John Newbery Award. The Association for Library Service to Children has awarded the Newbery for over 90 years for the most outstanding contribution to children's literature, commonly given to a chapter book.

Many of us know and love Dr. Seuss, an author who created engaging stories for beginning readers, and this award celebrates books that continue that tradition today.
