Conquer It

I conquored my fear and went on the "Funnel of Fear" ride at Michigan Adventures.

I am afraid of heights, but I went to the top of the Willis Tower (Sears Tower) in Chicago

This earned me the "Conquer It" badge because the skydeck was on the 103rd floor (1,353 feet in the air!) and I went on the plexi-glass, 4ft out! It was so scary! You could see the city right underneeth your feet! I conquered my fear of heights.

Said speech on freedom

I conquered 3 obstacle courses.

I conquered 3 obstacle courses that I made up on my swing set. They were all the same except for the ending. The first one I ran up the slide and jumped off. The second was run back to the swing set, jump and grab a chin up bar in mid air. The last one was when I came around the camper, ran toward the fence and dashed toward a swing and jumped through it.

Gave a speech on which is better Gatorade or Powerade

We spoke in front of large crowds

I did an obstacle course.

I did an obstacle course that I was afraid of. The part I was afraid of was jumping through the swing but I did it.

Paper Airplanes and Jet Engines

On Friday, June 29 starting at 10:00 AM, join us in the Community Room to learn how to create a number of awesome paper airplanes, but it doesn't stop there. The kind folks at the Michigan Institute of Aviation and Technology (MIAT) will discuss how and why we fly and fire up one of their real jet engines in the west side parking lot. How cool is that? This program is recommended for patrons aged eight and up. In case of rain, the program will remain in the Community Room.

Road to the Olympics with the Shibutanis

Maia and Alex Shibutani are ice dancers with dreams of attending the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. In 2011, the Shibutanis were the first ice dance team in U.S. history to win a medal (bronze) at the World Championships in their debut senior season. They also took the silver at the U.S. championships and at Four Continents Championships behind their training mates, 2010 Olympic Silver Medalists, Meryl Davis and Charlie White. While we are all still steeped in the London Olympics, hear what dedication and drive are needed to aspire to the Olympics and perform at championship levels from brother and sister team, Maia (18) and Alex (21) on Thursday, August 9 at 7:00 PM.

Conquer Your Health with Goals

Remember: your body is a temple. Take control of your health by setting (and meeting) goals to improve your health. Begin a new fitness routine. Make a plan to improve your eating habits. Take up an active hobby, such as bicycling or playing a sport. Make goals you can acheive this summer, for example:
  • Walk for 30 minutes, 5x a week
  • Quit drinking soda for (at least) one month
  • Find and join a local martial arts group and attend at least 3 meetings
Once you've met your first goal, log in and claim your badges! Need help getting started?
