Requesting a book.

Hi, I was at the library a few days ago trying to request a book. When I tried it said that it was denied and listed a few reasons as to why. I went up to the counter and asked the librarian if anything was wrong with my card. She said no, and to just try again. I went to go try again and it didn't work. I then decided to look for another book, and request it. When I requested it, it worked. Why did it work for one book, but not the other? How can I get the book on my request list if it won't work?

Hi, Staci, sorry for the inconvenience you experienced. If you can give me some additional information, I can look into why you were able to request one book but not the other.

For example, what were the titles? Were they both in the Canton library catalog, or were you searching other libraries, or MeLCat? What was the specific message you received?

With this additional information, I can look into your problem and see if we can resolve it so that we can get you this book.

Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you.

The book I was able to request was called Thirteen Reasons Why by Jason Asher. The book I wasn't able to request was called Dead End by Jason Myers.

The message that showed up said:
No Items Requestable, request denied.
This may have happened due to:
-An expired library card.
-Fines exceeding limit
-A manual block on your account

I had asked a librarian at the counter if anything was wrong with my card and she said there was nothing wrong and to try again.

Thanks for the additional information. It seems that the only copy of Dead End that we own is "missing," which means it isn't where it's supposed to be. Because we have no copies available, you could not place the hold. So, it's not you--it's us!

I've manually put you on hold for the book and asked the librarian who buys our teen fiction to order another copy. To hedge our bets, I've also requested the book from another library. You'll get it one way or another, and we'll email you to let you know when it's ready for pickup.

Sorry again for the inconvenience, but we should be getting this for you soon.
