ITunes

The library purchase from itunes in bulk from requested songs by patrons and sell them at a discount to those patrons and, subsequently, other interested parties. I would like "Ghostriders in the Sky" by The Outlaws just to get it going.

Thank you for your suggestion. While this is an interesting idea there are a couple of reasons that the Library would not be able to offer such a service - mainly that it would be a violation of both the Doctrine of First Sale for digital media http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctrine_of_first_sale and the iTunes Store Terms of Sale http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html. The Library has a very good CD collection in many different genres. In addition, if there are artists not in our collection we would be glad to check the Michigan Electronic Library http://elibrary.mel.org/search to see if they can be interloaned for you. Thanks again for your interest in the Library’s collection.

Thank you very much for your reply. I know you would have to comply with copyright laws much as companies who sell compilations over TV commercials, and it may be difficult to enter this uncharted area by a library.

If you could get "Polk Salad Annie" by Tony Joe White, "Cherry Hill Park" sung by Billy Joe Royal, and a compilation by Bobby Vinton, that would be awesome.

Thanks

Thanks again for your suggestions. They will be referred to the librarian in charge of the CD collection, and you will be placed on hold for those items which are able to be ordered. In the case of out of print titles, they may need to be interloaned if available.
