Computer Classes at the Library

  • Current Canton Library cardholders 18 years and above are eligible to register for classes.
  • Go to Programs Calendar to sign up for classes.
  • Registration for class starts one week in advance of program date. Register online only. A Tutorial is available to help guide you through the online registration process.
  • Have your Canton Library card number ready when you log on to the computer to register.
  • You can use MyAccount to review programs you are registered or waitlisted for and to cancel a registration. Please cancel registration at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a $5 fee.
  • All classes are free to Canton Library cardholders.


May-June Schedule

The following classes appear in alphabetical order by program name.

May 6 or May 31 (9:30-11:30)   Basic Computer Maintenance
    Keep your computer healthy by performing routine maintenance. Learn to empty temporary Internet files, delete cookies, defragment the hard drive, use scandisk and disk cleanup, uninstall unwanted programs and more. Lecture and some Internet use. Prerequisite: Some computer knowledge.
May 13 or June 5 (9:30-11:30)   Digital Camera for Beginners
    Discover how to transfer photos onto a computer, use MS Photo Editor to crop, rotate and resize pictures, plus email them. Visit print processing websites too. Please leave your camera and photos at home. Prerequisite: Mouse and keyboarding skills.
June 5 (6:30-8:30)   Excel I
    Learn the basics of a spreadsheet to create a family or personal budget. Prerequisite: Mouse and keyboarding skills.
June 12 (6:30-8:30)   Excel II
    Learn to use data, graphics and charts, and how to customize toolbars. Prerequisite: Excel I or equivalent.
May 9 (10:00-11:00)   Internet I
    Get acquainted with the basic features of Internet Explorer. Prerequisite: Mouse skills or equivalent.
May 23 (10:00-11:00)   Internet II
    Learn how to better search the Web, the library catalog and online databases. Prerequisite: Internet I.
May 1 or June 3 (9:30-11:30)   MS Word I
    Introduction to basic word processing terminology and skills, including text creation, formatting, printing and saving. Prerequisite: Mouse and keyboarding skills.
May 8 or June 10 (9:30-11:30)   MS Word II
    Learn to add tables, headers and footers, insert symbols, and other commands to enhance a document. Prerequisite: MS Word I or equivalent.
May 15 or June 17 (9:30-11:30)   MS Word III
    Create text boxes, multiple columns, column breaks, and manipulate paragraphs to make a newsletter. Prerequisite: MS Word I or equivalent.
June 6 (10:00-11:00)   Mouse Skills
    This beginners-only class will guide you in mastering basic computer skills. No advance registration necessary for this class.
May 10 (9:30-11:30)   PowerPoint I
    Learn to create multimedia presentations for school or business. Prerequisite: Mouse and Word skills.
May 17 (9:30-11:30)   PowerPoint II
    Add motion and sound, Word Art and more to give your presentation more impact. Prerequisite: PowerPoint I.
