Summer Reading Celebration

Celebrate the end of summer reading with fun in the sun. Activities include crafts, entertainment, face painting and farm animals. All activities will take place behind the library. Registration is not required.
All are welcome!

Silly Bandz/Silly Books

Books, bands and big smiles will all be a part of this silly program at the library. Kids will make a craft, and their own edible silly-band, and enjoy some stories and jokes together. Come enjoy this fun program before the school year starts. Kids can come wearing their silly bands and leave with a new silly band for their collection.

Register for the First Grade Book Group

Hey kids! Don't forget to register for the August First Grade Book Discussion! Registration starts Monday, August 9th at 9:00AM and the Book Discussion will meet from 2:00 until 2:30PM on Monday, August 23rd. This month's book is A Wish for a Fish. See you There!

The Olympians and Percy J.

Kids, grades 3-6, get together with other Percy J. and Greek mythology fans. Test your knowledge of Greek gods and goddesses, share your favorite myths and Percy J. adventures, play a few games, and create a Greek gourmet delight.

Short Story and Manga Drawing Conest

Attention Tweens and Teens: The last day to submit entries to the Short Story Contest and the Manga Drawing Contest is Sunday, August 1. Winners will be announced at the Summer Reading Celebration on Saturday, August 14. Good luck!

Google Business Center

The library's Summer School for Small Business series is going strong! Our next class will be Google Business Center on Wednesday, July 28th from Noon-1:00PM. Find out how to advertise online, maximize your revenue, reach new customers, enhance your website and increase your productivity. No registration required.

Canton’s Senior Summit

Canton Supervisor Phil LaJoy is hosting a Senior Summit on Monday, September 13, at  Summit on the Park, from 9:00AM-2:00PM. Supervisor Phil LaJoy began this event when he was serving as a State Representative, and is now continuing it for Canton seniors.

The Senior Summit will feature a wide array of informational booths and presentations geared toward today’s senior. Also included are door prizes, a continental breakfast, lunch, bingo and a shredding truck. The event is free, however registration is required. Farmers Market Storytime

Join us at the Canton Farmers Market this Sunday!
  • We'll have M is for Mitten storytimes at 11:00AM and 1:00PM
  • Related crafts immediately after each storytime
  • Kids can play "I Spy" for the Market bird and get a sweet treat!

Kimono

University of Michigan Museum of Art has some beautiful Kimonos on display as part of their special exhibits. The exhibition runs through July 25th, 2010. Head out and enjoy the display.

Tweeting For Business Success

Our Summer School for Small Business series continues with Twitter For Business on Thursday, July 22nd from Noon-1:00PM. Learn how to use Twitter to connect with customers, build relationships and engage potential customers. No registration is required but you must have an existing email account.

Fourth Grade Book Discussion

Get together with other fourth grade readers to talk about one of Beverly Cleary's most awesome books, Ramona the Pest. Read this book and you will enjoy the upcoming movie, Beezus and Ramona, even more.

Duct Tape Mania

Teens in grades 7-12 and Tweens in grades 5-6 can create awesome creations out of duct tape July 15th from 2:00-2:45PM. All materials will be supplied.

Make Your Own Minicomics

Teens in grades 7-12 can learn to draw minicomics from Jane Irwin July 27 from 7:00-8:00PM.

And Now it's Time for Silly Songs

The part of the summer where we get together to sing some silly songs. Children ages two to not yet in Kindergarten and their Caregivers can join us for a morning of general silliness. We'll sing and play silly games and make silly crafts. Please register to join us on July 26th at 10:00AM.

Dearborn Library Foundation Hosting Author Mark Crilley

A Children’s Author Luncheon, hosted by the Dearborn Public Library Foundation is being held Saturday, August 21, featuring award winning Michigan author and illustrator Mark Crilley. Crilley is the author of more than 20 children’s books including the popular Akiko series. His work has been honored by the American Library Association and featured in entertainment Weekly, USA Today and CNN Headline News.
The luncheon starts at 12 Noon at Park Place Banquet Hall, 23400 Park Street, Dearborn, 48124. The cost for the luncheon, featuring separate menus for children and adults, and the presentation by the author is $20 for children 12 and under, and $25 for adults. Dog Daze

Attention 3rd and 4th Grade Dog Lovers! Gather with other doggie lovers to share some great dog stories, learn something new about dogs, make a dog craft, enjoy a doggie snack, and play a dog bone game.

Birdfeeder Program

Hey friends! If you are in Kindergarten to 2nd grade, register on or after Thursday, July 8th for our Birdfeeder program being held on Thursday, July 22nd from 11:00 to 11:45AM. We will have a great time learning about birds and you'll get the chance to make a birdfeeder to take home and enjoy. See you there!

Facebook for Business

Join us on Tuesday, July 13th from Noon-1:00PM to learn about Facebook. The second session in our Summer School for Small Business series, Facebook for Business will teach you how to post events, photos and include Facebook in your business marketing plan. Prerequisite: existing email account or personal Facebook account. No registration necessary.

Celebrate Siblings at CPL

In honor of the new Ramona and Beezus movie, children, tweens and teens with siblings 8 and up can join us Wednesday, July 21st at 2:00PM as we celebrate that special sibling bond with games, crafts and activities! Registration is required and begins July 7th.
