During the month of March, Canton First Graders visit the library with their classes for an exciting program.  They enjoy a puppet show, hear a super story and get a tour of the Children's Library.  This year will mark our 18th Annual First Grade Round-Up.

Celebrate Black History Month with interactive stories and songs. Storyteller La'Ron Williams returns to the library, Saturday, February 28th from 2-3pm in the Community Room, with a bag of tales and instruments from the African American tradition. This program is for ages 5 and up.

The Senior Alliance is requesting your input for the 2010-2012 Multi-Year Plan. A community forum  for input on how  $20 million in state and federal funds should be used for senior services will be held on Monday, March 2 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Summit on the Park (46000 Summit Parkway, Canton). If you are unable to attend, please complete the survey available on The Senior Alliance website.  Submit the completed survey to the Planning Specialist at The Senior Alliance by April 30, 2009.

Are you providing care for someone elderly?  Or are you a senior citizen wanting to learn more about laws that impact on your life?  Neighborhood Legal Services of Michigan Elder Law & Advocacy is presenting a panel discussion on Wednesday, February 25 (6-8 p.m.) at the Cherry Hill Village Theater.  Topics covered are current events in elder law, tips on caregiving, and preventing elder abuse. Boy!  I can’t wait for March to get here.  Why?  Because March is Reading Month!  And Reading Month means First Grade Round Up!    This is the 18^th year the  Children’s Tween and Teen Services Librarians will host first grade classes from local schools.  And I haven’t missed one yet!    Kids get a tour of the library and meet my Giraffe friends Caribou and Rafiki.  Then they make a craft and see a really funny puppet show.  The best part of First Grade Round Up is that each First Grader gets a library card and checks out a book that day

We invite families with children ages 1-5 years old to join us for a half hour program to share some great books and fingerplays. Registration not required.

Book Buddies is for 3rd and 4th graders.
Get together with other kids and talk about a fantastic book. Online registration begins February 5 or February 7. After you’re registered, visit the Children’s Information Desk to check out a copy of the book. Please register for only one book club per month.

Join us at 7pm every second Monday of the month for Knit Night in the Community Room.

Grandparents are welcome to bring their grandchildren to Grandparent Fun on February 12, 2009 from 10-11am.  We meet monthly to enjoy stories, songs, crafts and play!  This months theme is Love so be prepared to make some special Valentine crafts and have a lot of fun!  Registration is now open, use your own library card or your grandchild's.
