Our digital photo contest celebrates the Teen Read Week theme Read Beyond Reality. We are looking for photos that are beyond real. Entries can be almost anything as long as the photo is your own. For entry details check out the attachment below.

During the week of October 26, the Michigan Humanities Council will initiate an online dialogue with high school classrooms and residents across the state. The dialogue will focus on Stealing Buddha's Dinner, perspectives presented in Nguyen's author tour, and the themes of cultural understanding, immigration stories, and contemporary history. The public is invited to participate, at the Council's Facebook Discussion Forum.

Try Comedy Improv Saturday, October 3 from 1:00-4:00PM. Teens in grades 7-12 can join us for some improv comedy games “Whose line?” style. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be great at this. In fact, one of our games is a competition for telling the worst jokes ever. Come to watch or to partake; it’s all good!

First Step offers free advice to victims of domestic violence. In light of recent events in the community, it was time to invite First Step to share their expertise and helpful hands with the women of our community. If you are feeling alone, afraid, hopeless, First Step and speaker Judith Barr can help. Please join us on October 29th at 2pm in the Purple Room. No registration is needed.

Gaia Kile, a Family Nurse Practitioner working with natural and holistic approaches to health and disease, is the featured speaker. Canton Public Library just received a grant to work with the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum and Project S.N.A.P.! The goal of the grant project is to engage youth and families at their local libraries in environmental and arts activities. Participating families will receive hands-on environmental leadership training, the opportunity to build support for environmental stewardship in Canton, a chance to make art for a community mural and the opportunity to participate in a community-wide clean-up project. We are one of only five libraries in Southeast Michigan to be awarded this grant collaboration. Stay tuned for more information on how you and your family can get involved.

We've done it this time! We've got 1000 sheets of origami paper just waiting to be folded at our Fantastic Origami program on Tuesday, September 22 from 5-7pm in the Purple Room. Come learn about Sadako Sasaki and celebrate the International Day of Peace on September 21 by making paper cranes. Registration is now open for third and fourth graders.

The Canton Seniors Book Group will meet on Wednesday, September 23, from 2:00-3:00PM at the Canton Seniors Center in The Summit. This month we're reading the 2009 Pulitzer Prize winner, March by Geraldine Brooks. It is the story of Rev. March, father of Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, and March's year as a chaplain in the Union Army. Pick up a copy at the Canton Public Library Adult Reference Desk.
