Chalk CPL

Great art can happen in any medium and to prove that, artists from D&M Art Studio will be here on July 9 at 6:00 PM to create chalk art versions of our Detroit Institute of Arts Inside|Out masterpieces. See what they create, and then cover the CPL sidewalks with your own chalk work of art in this all-ages activity. Artists will also be at Cherry Hill Village so be sure to stop out there and see the Inside|Out art and chalk recreations.

DIA Free Admission for Canton Residents

Now in its third year, Inside|Out brings reproductions of great treasures from the Detroit Institute of Arts into the community.  After discovering these pieces around Canton, visit the real thing at the DIA on July 15 when Canton residents receive free museum admission. Present your driver’s license or state ID and receive four complimentary general admissions to the Detroit Institute of Arts. Does not include admission to special exhibitions.

Canton Seniors Book Group Reading List 2012

The Canton Seniors Book Group meets on the fourth Thursday of the month from 2:00-3:00 PM in Group Study Room A. We meet every month except December. Adult Librarians Elaine Skrzynski and Joyce Simowski alternate leading the discussion. Copies of the discussion book can be picked up at the monthly meeting or after the meeting at the Adult Desk.

New Meeting day for Canton Seniors Book Discussion

New Day. Year round. The Canton Seniors Book Discussion will now meet every month on the fourth Thursday of the month beginning on Thursday, July 26. We will continue to meet at Canton Public Library in Group Study Room A from 2:00-3:00 PM. Every month copies of the upcoming selection will be distributed following the book discussion. If you can't attend the discussion, ask an Adult Reference Librarian at the Help Desk for a copy. Learn more about the upcoming selections at the Book Clubs page for this group and other Canton Public Library book discussion groups.

Tie Dye!

Monday, August 6, from 2:00-4:00 PM bring something white to tie dye — socks, t-shirts, tote bags — and let your style show. This messy project will be held outside; dress appropriately. No registration required.

Copper Tom: Music, Comedy and Storytelling

Copper Tom incorporates cool, sometimes arcane, rhythms into accessible songs.  He draws inspiration from American roots music, including old time country, blues and roots rock and roll.  He might even throw in a little New Orleans funk, Trinidadian calypso, reggae and some fun tales to boot.  Join us on Wednesday, July 25 from 7:00-8:00 PM as we sing and dance to Copper Tom's eclectic music. 

Children's Traditional Yoga Basics

On Wednesday, August 1 from 10:00-10:40 AM, Thirupu Siva will teach children five-nine years old the basic asanas building up to intermediate poses. If attending, please wear loose fitted clothing and bring a yoga mat or towel on which to learn. Registration for this program begins on May 24 at 9:00 AM.

Calling All Babies! If you are two-years-old or younger, join us Thursday, August 9, 2012 from 10:00-10:30 AM, as we explore Animals. Screenplay Writers Workshop

Join award-winning screenplay writer Brian Webster as he helps you develop your clever ideas into actual screenplays. Learn about important contacts, the legal matters and so much more. Adults and teens are welcome on August 8 at 7:00 PM for this unique opportunity.

Summer-themed Card Making

Create a fun summer-themed card using pre-cut on shapes Monday, August 6th from 2:00 to 3:00 PM.

Tea, Biscuits and Sherlock Holmes

Relax with a biscuit and a cup of proper tea and help the one-and-only Sherlock Holmes solve mysteries. We will show classic Sherlock Holmes movies for your pleasure throughout the afternoon and evening on July 30 beginning at 2:00 PM.

International Murders

Adult librarian, Joyce Simowski, shares her vast knowledge of international murder mysteries. Come learn about new authors and new detectives who are sure to intrigue you and fill your summer afternoons lounging around the pool and reading. Joyce will have lists to share on July 23 at 7:00 PM.

Nature Photography

See through the eyes of professional photographer, Rick Lieder. We will wander the library grounds to capture on film bugs and wildlife. The library will provide disposable cameras or you may bring your own. Take advantage of the opportunity to learn from this gifted professional. Join other adults on July 17th at Noon.

Tuesday's Child

Enjoy an afternoon of great traditional and folk music from local band, Tuesday's Child. The group includes two library staff members. Stick around at the end for a special instrument petting zoo of unusual instruments like a dulcimer, mandolin and more. All ages are welcome onSunday, July 15 at 3:00 PM.

July Make and Take

Kids going into grades 3rd through 5th can drop in any time between 2:00 and 3:00 PM on Friday, July 6th for a Make and Take craft program. We'll be making super fun monster bookmarks that hold your place in your favorite book.
