Keep these dates in mind: June 16 and August 6

Summer Reading 2008 kicks off on Monday, June 16 and wraps up on Wednesday, August 6. All entries for the Grand Prize Drawing must be received by 9:00 p.m. on August 6. The Grand Prize Drawing takes place on Friday, August 8, and winners will be notified by phone.

And don't forget these dates

Weekly Drawings take place on:

  • July 5, 2008
  • July 12, 2008
  • July 19, 2008
  • July 26, 2008
  • August 2, 2008

Any additional prizes (Registration Prize, Trivia Contest Prize etc) will be drawn after 9:00 pm on August 6, 2008. Winners will be notified by phone.

The American Film Institute’s famous “100 Years 100 Movies” lists are a great place to find movie suggestions. Each list honors a different aspect of excellence in American film and gives the date of original release. Free registration required.

Guidelines

   

1. Sign Up at the Canton Public Library.

2. Ages 18 and up are eligible to join.

3. Registration begins June 16, 2008

4. Game pieces for each decade from 1930 to present are included in your Summer Reading kit. Each game piece will list the following categories:

  • Watch a movie originally released during the decade
  • Read a book originally published during the decade
  • Listen to a CD with music originally published during the decade
  • Read a book with a story that takes place during or is about the decade, either nonfiction or fiction
  • Watch a movie with a story that takes place during or is about the decade

5. Each time you complete a category visit the Adult Reference Desk to have your game piece punched and receive an entry blank for the Weekly Prize Drawings. You are limited to 40 weekly entries in all. Non-winning entries will carry over from week to week.

6. Once you complete all the categories for a particular decade and have five punches on your game piece, visit the Adult Reference Desk to receive an entry for the Grand Prize drawing. You must complete all of the categories for a particular decade to be entered in the drawing for the Grand Prize. You are limited to one entry per decade and to eight entries overall.

7. All entries for the Grand Prize Drawing must be received by 9:00 pm, Wednesday August 6, 2008. Winners will be notified by phone.

8. We have provided bookmarks with suggested titles for each decade, but you may choose any title that fits into the category. You do not have to pick any of the suggested titles in order to enter, but you must stay within the category.

9. Employees of the Canton Public Library are not eligible to participate.
