Notices

If your library account has a current email address:
  • We will send you a courtesy notice 2 days prior to the item's due date with a link to our website so you may renew your items
  • You will receive a reminder at 4 days and again at 10 days after the due date
  • Overdue material not returned after 21 days will be sent a billing notice and at 30 days accounts may be turned over to a collection agency

Renewing Materials

Renewable materials may be renewed four times after the original checkout unless they are on hold for another patron.

Holds

Materials will be kept on the hold shelf a maximum of four days after notification of availability is sent to requestors. Only patrons with Canton Public Library cards can place holds.

Borrowing Audio-Visual Media

DVDs/CD-ROMs/Audiotape/Videotape/CDs
  • There is no charge to borrow media unless they are kept beyond the due date, when a $1-per-day late fee is assessed for feature videos and DVDs, and $.20 for all other A/V media
  • The library is not responsible for damage to borrowers' equipment
  • For CD-ROMs, be aware that some products automatically load software or alter existing software. Consider backing up your system and other files before using these products. Also, copyright laws require that library software be deleted from your hard drive before you return the package to the library
  • The full replacement cost of the CD-ROM will be charged if the disc, or any of the accompanying contents, is damaged or lost
  • Because the library has no restrictions based on ratings of motion pictures, parents are urged to monitor their children's borrowing

Restriction for Belleville Residents

Our reciprocal borrowing agreement with neighboring libraries allows a library to institute borrowing limits when checkout from another library's patrons exceeds 10% of our total checkouts. Residents of Belleville, Sumpter, and Van Buren — who are cardholders of the Belleville Area District Library — are therefore limited to two items per person. Our Library Board authorized this restriction in 2007.

Restriction for Romulus Residents

In preparation for their anticipated closing on May 1, 2011, the Romulus Public Library stopped checking out all materials on April 4. As a member of The Library Network cooperative, the Romulus Public Library had a reciprocal borrowing agreement in place that allowed Romulus cardholders to use neighboring libraries. Because the Romulus Public Library stopped lending to Canton residents, in violation of our reciprocal borrowing agreement, the Canton Public Library Board voted at their April 21 meeting to stop lending to Romulus Public Library cardholders, effective immediately.

Restriction for Garden City Residents

In preparation for their anticipated closing, the Garden City Public Library has announced that the last day they will lend materials is Thursday, May 26, 2011. As a member of The Library Network cooperative, the Garden City Public Library had a reciprocal borrowing agreement in place that allowed Garden City cardholders to use neighboring libraries. Because GCPL will not be lending materials to Canton residents, that agreement is void effective May 26, 2011.
