Patron Service Improvement Project
Library open, construction ongoing
The front doors are now open and our new customer service desks are operational. Web Express computers are also open.
Some areas remain inaccessible as work continues. Please ask if you need materials and staff will retrieve them for you. Work is ongoing and includes sawing, hammering and drilling so expect noise and dust. To get a peek at the changes so far, visit our Facebook album.
Patron Service Improvement Project (PSIP) InformationThe library will embark on a construction project to renovate patron service points in the central area of the library to accommodate the changing ways our patrons use the library and to fulfill our core values of Relevance, Access, Integrity and Leadership.
These changes will provide improved patron service with one access point for all services, including circulation and reference help. The new configuration is designed for one-on-one interactions and reflects the library's 2012 strategic plan and commitment to service excellence.
During the construction, some areas of the library will be inaccessible to patrons. The main entrance will close for a period of two weeks except for access to the Community Room, Jungle Java Express and restrooms. Other areas of the library may also be inaccessible to the public for periods of time; please visit this page for updates. We apologize for any inconvenience, excess dust and noise during this project.
The Patron Service Improvement Project will accomplish the following:
- Bring this area of the library into compliance with the ADA
- Improve traffic flow
- Provide more personalized reference help
- Deliver an efficient checkout desk experience
- Add more self checkout stations
- Centrally locate and consolidate printer/copier work area
- Create additional seating areas
- Replace worn flooring
- Updated technology
The budget for the project is $361,733. As a result of careful financial stewardship and community support for this planned expenditure, the library will pay for the project with a one-time fund balance transfer of $346,733 and an additional $15,000 from the 2014 operating budget.
