Two Toronto Movie Highlights
Back from the Toronto Int'l Film Festival and wanted to pass along a couple of recommendations should they ever make a general release. Both are documentaries. Trumbo spotlights blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, whose credits include Exodus and Spartacus. Then Encounters at the End of the World was a gorgeous production about life at McMurdo Sound in Antarctica during the camp's "summer months." Director Werner Herzog declared in the opening moments that this was not going to be "another penguin movie," and it wasn't. The photography, above and below the ice, was incredible, while the interviews with those free-spirited souls who work at the base were definitely entertaining.
