Some of my favorite albums from the 1960s not by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, or Bob Dylan.

This year marks the 100th awarding of the Pulitzer Prizes. The 2016 winners include:

The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen

Winner of the Fiction Category, this is a gripping spy novel, a moving story of love and friendship, and a layered portrayal of a young man drawn into extreme politics,The Sympathizer examines the legacy of the Vietnam War in literature, film, and the wars we fight today.

Merle Haggard, the "grizzled country music legend" whose songs such as Okie from Muskogee and Fightin' Side of Me made him a voice for the workingman and the outsider, passed away on his 79th birthday thisa week. Haggard recorded more than three dozen No. 1 country hits in a musical career that spanned six decades, from the 1960s into the 2010s. Check out a variety of musical stylings to play in the car. Warning: musical taste will vary, and not all albums are suitable for listening on repeat until a child finally tires of them.

This CD, designed to entertain babies in the car, contains a selection of classical music with catchy, yet complex musical patterns, without startling loud bursts or over-stimulating sounds.

Turn turn turn [sound recording] by Elizabeth Mitchell

Two of the foremost makers of handmade, independent, and family friendly music join forces for a collaborative album. Among the tracks is a new version of the classic song Turn Turn Turn written specifically for children by Toshi Seeger.
