The Children's Department at the Canton Public Library has many resources that use the phonetic method to teach reading. These materials come in many formats to fit a variety of learning styles.

Books for young children...

  • Play with vowel sound series:
    Vowel sounds are introduced as children play fun games.
  • Sound Box series
    The Sound Box books feature words beginning with each letter of the alphabet.

    This series combines puppetry, animation and music to encourage children to read through phonics.
  • Beginners' Reading with Phonics
    Certified reading specialist Barbara Phipps and her furry friend Snoothyguzzlesmort make learning to read fun with songs and stories.
  • Learning to Read with Phonics series
    Mrs. Phipps presents music, humor, graphics, and colors to teach children phonics.
  • Phonics
    Learn to read with songs and games with this program that teaches phonics rules.

    A fun way to learn to read for children three to seven.
