Maha Zahid and Christina Christenson, Girl Scouts from Troop #40196, would like to thank the community for their generous contributions to their book drive that was conducted over the summer. The girls received over 3,600 donated books for Bennett Elementary School. Maha and Christina collected the books as part of their Girl Scout Silver Award.

Bennett Elementary, located in Detroit , had a fire that destroyed part of the school, including the library, and caused severe smoke and water damage to the classrooms. The school budget did not allow for replacement of the books lost in this tragedy. Many of the donated books went to each of the 23 classrooms — to establish mini classroom libraries. Many others went to help re-establish the school library. Maha and Christina wanted to say thank you to everyone that helped in the collection and delivery of the books.
