The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick

The invention of Hugo Cabret: a novel in words and pictures by Brian Selznick — The first time I tried to read this, I had a hard time flipping between the illustrated sections and the text. But so many people had recommended this one that I felt I had to try again. And it was worth it. Hugo is an orphan living in a train station who keeps the clocks running. He is also trying to solve the mystery of this automaton - a mechanical man who looks like he has a message to write out, if only he was functioning. Hugo tries to fix the automaton, and gets swept up in another mystery. This was a thrilling tale of clockwork, the early days of movies, and a young boy.
