Geek Out: On the Scene

Build Your Own Minecraft Server

At this program, brought to our library by Kidpreneur, kids aged 9-13 will learn how to build, maintain and update their own Minecraft server. They will focus on building a server by installing a GUI and configuring port forwarding on modem; learn administrator/OP commands like white list, banning users, giving items and more; updating the server and adding important plugins. No coding skill is required. All attendees must bring their own PC/Mac laptop and have an active Minecraft account. This program takes place on Saturday, July 12 from 10:00AM - 1:00PM. Registration for this program begins on May 29.   

Kidpreneur offers an environment for learning skills in coding, robotics, web design and more that is taught by top practitioners with real-world experience. By providing a space that encourages entrepreneurship, mentoring young thinkers, and collaboration, Kidpreneur cultivates a community of like-minded kids united by common goals, similar interests, and the occassional gaming challenges.

Movie Madness: The Lego Movie

Start your summer break off right with a viewing of The Lego Movie! On Tuesday June 17 starting at 2:00PM watch as Emmett Brickowski and his rag tag group of Lego friends find their creativity and battle the evil Lord Business.
You may bring pillows, snacks, even your own comfy lawn chairs if you like. And remember...Everything is AWESOME!

Lego Club: Stop Motion Animation

Friday July 11, 2:00-5:00 PM. Learn how to make awesome stop-motion movies with Legos, a camera, and free software (all materials supplied). 11 & up. Registration required.

Climb Your Family Tree

Kids age 9-12, have you ever been curious about your family's past? Register online to join us at the library Thursday, August 7 from 2:00-2:45 PM for a kid-friendly introduction to the world of genealogy. We'll talk about how to start your family tree and share some tips for beginning your genealogy research.

Beginning Excel 2010

Learn to create a spreadsheet and manage a list
with Microsoft Excel 2010.

Registration required. Prerequisite: Mouse and keyboarding skills.

Giant Games: Life Sized Pac-Man

Friday June 27, 3:00-5:00 PM. Play life sized Pac-Man inside our huge maze (we'll supply the sheets for the ghosts).

Lego Club: Boat Challenge

Tuesday July 29, 1:00-2:00 PM. We'll supply the Legos. Your task is simple: make the best Lego boat ever! Then we'll see if it floats. No registration required.

hoopla Hoop - Hula Hoop Contest

Come and put your hula -hoop skills to the test! We are hosting a contest to celebrate hoopla, a multi-media platform that offers thousands of streaming and downloadable movies, music albums and audiobooks to the Canton community. The individual that hula-hoops the longest will walk away with a new android tablet, perfect for using hoopla! Staff will also be on hand to explain this awesome service in detail and help you set up an account! Contest participants are encouraged to bring their own hula - hoops if possible.  Join us Monday, June 23 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.

Digital Photo Project Session -CANCELED-

Do you have photos you’d like to share with friends and family? Want to turn some of your best pics into a creative project like customized note cards or a photo book? Whatever your skill level, join us Wednesday June 25, 6:30-8:00 PM in the Internet Lab for this hands-on help and work session. A library staff member will be on hand to offer help, advice and tips, including scanning prints and snapshots, creating a photo book, making customized photo gifts, editing and cleaning up digital images, posting pictures to social media sites or blogs, and transferring pictures from your phone or digital camera to a computer and more. Registration required.

NOTE: Support will be available only for photo editing applications installed on the library's public computers (such as MS Office, Paint and Paint.net, but NOT Photoshop or Photoshop Elements) or programs and services accessible from the internet. Come prepared to start or continue your own digital photo project. If you’re starting with printed snapshots, bring them with you. If you have digital photos, bring them on a portable device such as a USB drive or a camera memory card (such as an SD card).

The Smarter iPhone: Tips and Secrets You’re Going to Love!

Can your iPhone make you smarter and more productive, save you money, make your life easier and help you sleep better at night? Yes, yes, yes and yes!
On Wednesday, July 30, 6:30-8 PM, discover lesser-known features built right into your iPhone as well as several apps that can do some pretty amazing and useful things. This program is appropriate for users of the iPhone 4 or later models (running iOS 7 or 7.1) Join us for this fun and informative class and earn a Geek Out Badge!

Family Book Talk Night

Summer is a great time to have fun together as a family, and you can join us with your family by reading a book by (or about) Roald Dahl, then come to our Family Book Talk Night. Families with a child in elementary school can join us, and we'll have a snack and chat about the books we've read. 

Please register at least one member of your family and let us know how many people you will be bringing in the Note.
