Taped an I ❤ Barbara Kingsolver ❤ to the Help Desk

Barbara Kingsolver is my all-time favorite author. She is a master storyteller, and you can't help but become fully immersed in the lives of the characters she so vividly "paints" with words. I've read and enjoyed both her fiction and non-fiction works. Her latest novel, Flight Behavior, written with a global climate change perspective, did not disappoint! If I had to choose favorites, they would include The Bean Trees (her debut novel), The Poisonwood Bible, and Prodigal Summer, along with her nonfiction Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, which inspired me to become an even bigger advocate for 'locavore' eating, or striving to obtain most of your food from local sources, such as farmers, growers and producers within 100 miles of home. I would prefer to call myself a "Michivore," which expands the 100-mile rule to the entire state of Michigan!

Shopped the Bag Sale at the Library Bookshop!

Who doesn't LOVE a good deal?! Once a month, the Secondhand Prose used bookstore inside Canton Public Library holds a weekend bag sale: Fill one of their bags with almost anything in the store (books, music, movies) for just $5. Secondhand Prose is run by the Friends of Canton Public Library, a great group of volunteers and others who support the library in many special ways! I jammed a bag full of kids books and movies for five bucks! Sale dates for June: 21st, 22nd and 24th.

I read to my toddler!

I read a book to earn this badge:
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault
This is a fun book for little ones! The colors are vibrant and the jingle "chicka chicka boom boom" makes my son giggle every time I say it. It is a story about the letters of the alphabet that climb up a coconut tree. I can't wait to read Chicka Chicka 123 next.
