Road to the Olympics with the Shibutanis
Maia and Alex Shibutani are ice dancers with dreams of attending the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. In 2011, the Shibutanis were the first ice dance team in U.S. history to win a medal (bronze) at the World Championships in their debut senior season. They also took the silver at the U.S. championships and at Four Continents Championships behind their training mates, 2010 Olympic Silver Medalists, Meryl Davis and Charlie White. While we are all still steeped in the London Olympics, hear what dedication and drive are needed to aspire to the Olympics and perform at championship levels from brother and sister team, Maia (18) and Alex (21) on Thursday, August 9 at 7:00 PM.Manga Drawing Contest 2012

The rest is history and he went on to become one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Stop by the display showcase and remember Elvis. Earn CYS badges too. If you fill out a quiz and correctly answer all the questions, your name will be entered in a drawing for 2 free tickets to the Michigan Elvis Fest, July 13 and 14 in historic Depot Town, Ypsilanti. The quiz is located next to the Michigan Elvis Fest poster on the large print shelf. Return quizzes to the Help Desk.Attended a surprise birthday party for my Aunt, whom I love!

Jim Gill: Music Play Family Party
PLEASE NOTE: This program has been relocated to the Community Room at CPL.
Jim Gill is an award winning, Internationally known, fantastically expressive, super fun, author and musician. He is also a superstar among many and is played often at CPL's Family Storytimes. Most importantly, however, Jim is a child development specialist and concentrated his graduate studies on the significant role of play in our lives. Jim understands the importance of those moments when young children “play at reading” with parents, teachers and caregivers that they love. Those moments play a crucial role in literacy development.
Jim Gill is unique in his ability to combine his artistry with advocacy for early literacy development. He shares both at each inspiring and joyous event.
