Starfish Family Services Early Literacy Workshops

Starfish Family Services provide free, high quality, early literacy training to day care providers, caregivers and parents. They teach topics developed by the independent, non-profit HighScope Educational Research Foundation whose mission it is to train and develop people in early learning commuities. Join us on the second Monday of each month at 6:30PM as Starfish's instructors share one of over 30 training topics.  

June: Engagement and Family Partnerships: In this training, participants will learn the importance of developing strong relationships with families and strategies to support sustained partnership and engagement.

July - Treasure Baskets: Participants will learn about heuristic play and it's importance for young children, which materials appeal most to sensory-motor learners, and to develop treasure baskets containing these materials.

 August - Respecting Families Part Three: Developing a Cultural Competency Plan: What does it mean to be culturally competent? In this training, participants will discuss and gain a working knowledge of what is culture, explore their own cultural ‘script’, and learn how to create a culturally competent environment for families. Participants will draft a cultural competence plan for their own program
