Shared Experiences from 2013
Alien deep: revealing the mysterious living world at the bottom of the ocean by Bradley Hague — This book was about life on the ocean floor. There are some strange animals that live near these ocean vents that somehow create hospitable environments for life. If you're interested in space exploration, this is an interesting parallel.
The nursing mother's companion by Kathleen Huggins ; foreword by Ruth A. Lawrence — While there was some useful information in here, I found some of it to be outdated, and (more irritating) the tone to be overly preachy.
Say "Ahhh!": Dora goes to the doctor by Phoebe Beinstein ; illustrated by A&J Studios — I love Dora (and am trying to convince my parents that should be my younger sibling's name). In this book she goes to the doctor and is very brave.
The girl in the green raincoat: a novel by Laura Lippman — I'm only slightly ashamed to admit that I scoured the mystery fiction stacks for a short book in order to fulfill my Sleuth It badge. This was a decent mystery, though, and part of the reason I picked it is that the main character is in her final trimester of pregnancy.
