Watched an interesting video about summer

The video was good and a little bit quirky. It told me about how Connect Your Summer is really cool.

I read "Calico Joe" by John Grisham

Calico Joe is about baseball, redemption and relationships. It's a quick, easy read you can polish off in a weekend and a great way to earn you Game On badge. Look for a copy on the Lucky Day shelf.

Read and tried out a recipe from "Not your Mother's Cassetoles"

The Partly Cloudy Patriot

The partly cloudy patriot by Sarah Vowell — The time travel wasn't extreme, and mostly included stories from living memory, but I enjoyed the commentary on history, politics, and even job hunting. Favorite quote: "The more history I learn, the more the world fills up with stories."

Attended a surprise birthday party for my Aunt, whom I love!

I had a great time celebrating my Aunt's 70th birthday with my family!

Read Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis

This is a wonderful story that takes place in Michigan in the 1930's.

Took a Trip to the Detroit Zoo

We bought a zoo by Benjamin Mee — After our visit to the Detroit zoo, I checked this out for further reading. I loved the way the author describes the painful acquisition and renovation of a downtrodden zoo, yet the decision to purchase the dilapidated park and animals was never an impossible dream.

Cleaned Storage Room w/ Library Supplied Soundtrack

I got my hands dirty cleaning out a large storage room. There's still a ways to go, but I raided the CPL music CD collection for some background music.

How to grow a woman from the ground [sound recording] by Chris Thile

Eileen Ivers [sound recording]: [traditional Irish music] by Ivers, Eileen

Appalachian journey [sound recording] by Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, Mark O'Connor

Masters of the Irish guitar [sound recording]

Alternate History/ Dystopian Future

I read two books about young women in two very different worlds exploring their powers and strengths.

Divergent by Veronica Roth — The first of a series set in a future where the population is divided by personality type. Unfortunately, Beatrice doesn't fit just one.

Across the Great Barrier by Patricia C. Wrede — The sequel to Thirteenth Child, this is one of my favorite authors tackling a magical wild west.

Re-Read a Favorite Trilogy

I've read this series a number of times since I was a teen, and I still Love It! I listened to the final book this time around, which was a new experience, but reading or listening, I'll always have a soft spot for Anne McCaffrey's Pern series.

Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey

Dragonsinger by Anne McCaffrey

Conquered some Election Year Reading

The United States Constitution: a graphic adaptation by written by Jonathan Hennessey ; iIllustrated by Aaron McConnell — It's a good year to revisit the Constitution, and this book is full of explanation and historical tidbits that entertain as well as inform. Some of the concepts, like the 3/5 compromise, are illustrated in very thought-provoking ways.

Read About Pirate Radio

Pirate radio [videodisc] — I watched this movie some time ago, and since Radio Caroline was one of the pirate radio stations loosely depicted in the movie, I've had the following book on my reading list for awhile:

Shiprocked: [life on the waves with Radio Caroline] by Steve Conway — The story of Steve Conway's time with Radio Caroline doesn't include a lot of information about the context of pirate radio, but does include many entertaining anecdotes of his experiences on and off the Ross Revenge.

I watched the video. I laughed! I cried! It was better than CATS.

Watched a spectacular video about Connect your Summer!

What a great video! This got me SO excited to begin Connect Your Summer at the Canton Public Library!

Watched A Great CPL Video

Loved the music and the badges. Great video!

Went to the opera

A friend told me that operas have subtitles. I never knew, so I always thought I would be lost the whole time. I went to my first opera, I Pagliacci, at the Detroit Opera House.

I read to my furry friends

I gathered a group of animal friends and read them my favorite book.
