Canton Public Library wants you to Electrify Your Winter and Spark Your Year! We've created a whole packet of "Spark Sheets" to help you set goals and achieve great things. We will be rolling these out over the winter with curated experiences to encourage connectivity and growth for all ages. Our kids and family components are called Take Time Together. We will link to the relevant Spark Sheets as well as suggest activities you can do at home to grow in ways you never thought of. Catered to fit your busy lives, suggestions vary for families who have 5 minutes, 30 minutes, or 2 hours to spend with each other. The choice is yours!

Reflection and Planning Spark Sheets help us to reflect on 2018 and map out our desired growth for the new year.

5 minutes:

Take 5 minutes to discover a word that sums up your past year. Then, think of a new word for your 2019. Share with a family member why you chose this word and write them in your Spark Your Year.

30 Minutes:

Take 30 minutes to fill out our Reflection and Planning Spark Sheets (see links below) and share with a friend or family member.  You can illustrate, cut and paste from magazines, or write out your thoughts and feelings on what you loved from last year, and look forward to in the coming one.

2 hours:

Take 2 hours to watch a movie that was voted a top contender in 2018 (See our list below for ideas) or re-watch a movie that you saw in theaters and enjoyed. What movies are you looking forward to in the year to come?

Watch a family film from 2018 (please make sure the content is appropriate for your family before viewing)

Curious about the Keto craze? A lot of people are. It was one of the top trending Google health-related searches of 2018. Keto is short for ketogenic. It's a diet that's high in fats, moderate in proteins, and low in carbs. U.S. News and World Report ranked it as one of the year's 10 best weight loss plans. Before trying any new diet, please consult a physician. Want to know more? Check out some of our Keto books in the cooking and health collection.

The ketogenic diet isn't just a great tool for helping people lose weight and feel their best; it's also an extremely effective method for treating the common diseases of civilization. The Keto Cure will give readers the prescription they need to heal their bodies by eating plenty of fat and moderating protein and carbs. Dr. Adam Nally has been advocating a low-carb, high-fat diet in his clinical practice for more than fifteen years, helping people address their health problems by making better food choices. Dr. Nally and bestselling low-carb author and podcaster Jimmy Moore have worked together to create a top-50 health podcast espousing the benefits of eating keto. Now, for the first time, Dr. Nally has teamed up with Moore to take his years of clinical experience, put everything down on paper, and create a how-to guide that details all the ways in which the ketogenic diet can help remedy common ailments. The Keto Cure details the science behind the keto diet's effectiveness at treating a wide range of diseases… The Keto Cure also outlines practical tips gleaned from Dr. Nally's fifteen-plus years in medical practice, as well as Moore's ten-plus years as a health and wellness podcaster, on overcoming the common pitfalls that people experience when adapting to a high-fat way of eating, including fatigue and keto flu. This helpful information, combined with a wide variety of delicious keto recipes from international bestselling cookbook author Maria Emmerich, makes The Keto Cure a complete resource for healing oneself with the ketogenic diet.

Everything can be made keto! That's the message that food bloggers Matt Gaedke and Megha Barot want to deliver with their new book, Keto Made Easy. No more missing out on classics or favourite dishes, no more added costs with exotic new ingredients - in Keto Made Easy, Matt and Megha show you how to re-create non-keto recipes in easy, cost-effective, and delicious ways.

Celebrate the winter and the holidays with the whole family with videos available through our online streaming services Hoopla and Kanopy.

For this month, Lego engineers were challenged to build a Winter Wonderland Vehicle.

The requirements were;

  • Movement: how will your vehicle move through large amounts of snow?
  • Comfort: how does your vehicle keep you safe and warm?
  • Style: what makes your vehicle unique, cool, and awesome?

As the temperature drops, cozy up with a seasonal read from our Teen Fiction section!
