On Wednesday, February 13 at 4:00-4:45 PM, Thirupu Siva will teach young people from 6-16 years of age the basic asanas, building up to various intermediate poses. Please wear loose fitting clothing and bring a towel or yoga mat to work on. Registration for this program begins on January 25.

Starting on January 14, there will be a number of exciting changes to our Storytime roster! We will continue to offer Family Storytimes, add a second Baby Storytime, and unveil our Preschool Storytime sessions. Please read the information below to determine where your child will have the most fun, then follow the links to additional information about objectives and guidelines to create the best experience for your child.

Baby Storytime

Baby Storytime is intended for children who are 18 months and younger. An adult must accompany the baby to storytime which lasts approximately 30 minutes.

• Tuesdays 10:00-10:30 AM
• Thursdays 1:00-1:30 PM

In the Purple Room, registration required

Family Storytime

Family Storytime is intended for children who are 5 and younger. An adult must accompany the child to storytime which lasts approximately 30 minutes.

• Mondays 10:00-10:30 AM in the Community Room
• Wednesdays 10:00-10:30 AM in the Community Room
• Thursdays 10:00-10:30 AM in the Community Room
• Saturdays 10:00-10:30 AM in the Purple Room

Preschool Storytime

Preschool Storytime is intended for children who are 3 to 5 years old. We encourage independence in the preschool storytime; children are welcome to attend this session without their caregiver. Caregivers must stay in the Children’s Library while the storytime takes place. If their caregiver decides to attend the session they are expected to take part in the storytime activities. Each Preschool Storytime session lasts approximately 30 minutes.

All structured storytime sessions will be followed by a 30 minute open ABC Activity Time.

As we moved on to the next trial, I found myself checking everywhere around me in anticipation. Then, after what seemed like an eternity, we came to a gigantic gold door encrusted in jewels. Cautiously I pushed on it, it swung open, and it was surprisingly light. Raising my sword I walked in and saw… a sea of teddy bears blocking the exit.

Seriously, I’m not kidding. It was a circular room probably about 20 paces across and it was split into two sections, one was where Jonah and I were standing and the other side was a pit filled with an assortment of stuffed Kittens, Puppies, and teddy bears. They were all smiling so wide it made me want to throw up because of the happiness. I turned around expecting to see Jonah’s face puffing up as he tried not to laugh, but instead I saw a face full of fear. I tried so hard not to laugh that I must have looked like I poked my head in a beehive and got a face full of hurt.

This year at Canton Public Library, the University of Michigan's Museum of Natural History presents a series of three, fun Family Reading & Science workshops titled Just Like me: exploring culture, biology and the human experience. To tie in with their temporary exhibition at the museum called RACE: Are we so different? (February 2013-June 2013), they are focusing on and exploring how biology, anthropology, physics, geography and chemistry all play a part in race and culture.

Yeah kids, we know you are out of school and we know you are getting bored! Bring your friends to the library and game, game, game. On Friday, January 4 from 2:00-4:00 PM, we will have the Community Room hooked up to Wii, PS3, Xbox 360 with Just Dance 4 on the big screen! Bring games from home or play those we have here.
