Movie Madness: How To Train Your Dragon 2

It's time again for Movie Madness! Join us on Wednesday, February 18, at 2:00 PM as we show How to Train Your Dragon 2.  In the latest adventure, Hiccup and Toothless must protect the peace when they find a cave that is home to hundreds of wild dragons.

You may bring pillows, snacks, even your own comfy chairs. This film is rated PG.

Starfish Family Services: Word Play - CANCELLED

On Monday, February 16 from 9:30-11:30 AM, the highly trained staff from Starfish Family Services will present Word Play: Rhymes and other Pre-reading Activities. Participants will learn how to make nursery rhymes interactive and engaging. They will also learn the importance of phonological awareness in preschoolers. Bring your children to this program as free daycare is provided by Starfish's daycare professionals.

Dungeons and Dragons Gaming

Roll up some fun with kid-friendly Dungeons & Dragons Gaming.  This monthly program will take place the fourth Tuesday of every month from 3:30-5:00 PM. The next session is February, 24.  Have fun using your imagination while also working on building problem-solving skills, practicing mathematics and chart-reading, and learning new vocabulary.  All playing materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own dice.  This program is suggested for ages 9-12.  Families are welcome.  No registration is required.

2015 LEGO Dream Vehicle Awards Reception

This year our LEGO competition is open to a much wider age range than years past. We are sure that our patrons will produce some amazing works. Public viewing of the contest entries take place on Saturday, January 10 from 9:00-5:00 PM and Sunday, January 11 from 12:00 PM-4:00 PM.  Join us on Sunday at 4:00 PM as our contest culminates into our LEGO Dream Vehicle Award Reception. Decided by our esteemed panel of judges, we will finally see which entries roared to the front of the race.

Musical Theater Workshop- "Enchanted Fairy Tales"

Presented by two PCCS Arts Academy students, this multi-session, musical theater workshop will teach attendees, aged 7-10 years old, the basics of theater. They will cover many topics including projection, stage direction, set design all which will culminate in a fabulous performance by the young performers titled, “Enchanted Fairy Tales.” Hot on the heels of the theatrical release of "Into the Woods" and during this spring's theatrical release of "Cinderella", this show is made up of short scenes from popular musicals such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Peter Pan, and the Wizard of Oz. Scripts will be designed and dances choreographed based on the number of children registered.  This workshop will take place every Friday, from 4:30-5:30 PM, starting January 9 and ending on April 24. Registrants will be expected to attend most sessions. Registration begins December 23.
The children will showcase their talent and hard work to their loved ones with a final performance on Friday, May 1, at 4:30 PM!

Movie Madness: Guardians of the Galaxy

It's time again for Winter Break Movie Madness! Join us on December 29 at 2:00PM as we show Guardians of the Galaxy! This action-packed, epic space adventure expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the  entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits-Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand-with the galaxy's fate in the balance.

Raja Yoga Healing Meditation

Raja Yoga Meditation helps you reach a deeper understanding of yourself, your intrinsic positive qualities and your innate value. There is beauty in all of us and through meditation the inner beauty not only is revealed to the self, but also to the people around us. On Saturday, December 27 from 4:00-5:45PM, join practitioners from the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University to explore these universal concepts and encourage your inner spiritual development toward a fresh perspective on values such as justice, freedom, respect and love. Sessions will be interactive and experiential, where your tools for the inward journey will be explored and shared.

Starfish Family Services: Baby Moves

On Tuesday, December 16 from 6:30-8:30 PM, the highly trained staff from Starfish Family Services will present Baby Moves: Movement Activities for Infants and Toddlers. Participants will explore the importance of purposeful movement activities for infants and their impact on development. Bring your children to this program as free daycare is provided by Starfish's daycare professionals.

Hummingbird Music Together

You and your child, 0-5 years old, will love singing songs and chants from around the world, including: drumming to a traditional African folksong, paddling our canoes down the river, tapping our sticks to an Irish folk tune, singing a song in Spanish and enjoying a chant about some funny animals that live in Australia. Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood music program for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarteners, and the adults who love them. Join the staff from the Grosse Pointe Music Academy of Canton for this great program. The program will take place on Wednesday, November 4.  There will be two identical sessions, one from 10:00-10:45 AM and a repeated program rom 11:00-11:45 AM.  REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED and begins on October 21. Please only register for one session.   

Fine Art for Tweens: Sketching and Shading

Local fine artist Amarjeet Kapoor will teach how to sketch the objects placed in front of you. Next, you will learn how to shade the drawing with different blending and shading techniques. Adding shadows to an art work is an art in itself. With the help of shading, your work will be more realistic. Shading is an important part of drawing that can be used to create a strong sense of space and form and makes the object look solid and 3 dimensional.  Join us on Saturday, November 1 from 3:30-4:30 PM in the Purple Room. Registration is required and begins on October 18.
