Chalice

Lush, descriptive language and wildly creative (a girl who gets her magic from drinking cups -she mixes in honey for her own special kick), Robin Mckinley's characteristic style is all over this book. The best thing about Chalice, however, is that Mckinley knows how to bring out the complexities of the human heart in a way that puts other fantasy authors to shame. This is very sophisticated fantasy. While perhaps not as great as, say, Hero and the Crown, this book still ranks up there as one of her bests.
