Canton Community Foundation’s Annual College Scholarships

Listen up Plymouth and Canton residents!  If you are a high school senior planning for college or an adult returning to school, this is a scholarship opportunity you don't want to miss.  In the past 20 years, the Canton Community Foundation has awarded $540,000 to more than 500 recipients.  For more information and the application visit the foundation's website.  All applications are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 15th.

National Frozen Yogurt Day

Wednesday, February 6th is National Frozen Yogurt Day.  Canton's own Menchie's Frozen Yogurt will be giving away 6 ounces of frozen yogurt to customers with a coupon all day.  To get a coupon visit the Menchie's website for details. If you prefer to stay in and make your own frozen yogurt, check out one of our books with tons of tasty recipes.  No matter how you celebrate National Frozen Yogurt Day, it is sure to be delicious!

Sylvan Saturdays: ACT Test Prep

Sylvan Saturdays are back Saturday, November 10, from 9:30 AM-1:30 PM. Teens can attend this workshop, an introductory ACT Prep course that will give students some tips and strategies for scoring higher on the ACT. It will also include a full length practice test with scoring. You must attend the entire session. Registration required.

Harry Harrison, an American science fiction author, died at 87. He is best know for his Stainless Steel Rat series and the novel Make Room! Make Room! which became the movie Soylent Green.

Art of Emcee With DJ Turntables

On Saturday, July 14, from 2:00-3:30 PM, teens can learn the art of emcee from a talented artist. Enjoy a brief rap performance, learn about the background of Hip Hop and DJ, and finally write some rhymes of your own. Registration opens June 26.

Teens- Get A Free Book And Earn Your Love It Badge

Teens, we have copies of unpublished books by some of the top authors that you can preview.  All you have to do is stop by the east reference desk and pick-up a book.  Then you need to read it and post a review of the book as a comment to this blog letting us know if you LOVE IT or not.  The book is yours to keep so pass it on to a friend or read it over and over.  Don’t forget to claim your LOVE IT badge once you have completed the review.  Books are first come first served.

Teen Creative Writing

Beginning June 23rd and every other Saturday ending August 18th, teens going into grades 7-12 can hone their creative writing skills. This five-week course (you must attend all weeks) will be taught by Linda Weatherford Papa, Instructional Designer at The University of Detroit Mercy.
