Get Ready for some Whoppers!

There's nothing like a truly tall tale to stretch the imagination. And what better way to celebrate both Big Whopper Liar Day (September 19) and Keep Kids Creative Week (September 20-27)? So stop by the library this week and check out a tall tale, or find other ways to keep your imagination growing. Maybe you could perform a play or write your own story.

Happy Birthday, Roald Dahl!

Maybe you noticed the display in the children's library about Roald Dahl month? Well, get ready, because this weekend is Roald Dahl's birthday! Browse through our scrumdidlyumptious collection of his stories to celebrate, or bake a cake from his cookbook. If you're more interested in the man himself, check out some of our biographies full of information on Roald Dahl.

Happy Birthday, Paul Fleischman!

Celebrate Paul Fleischman's birthday on September 5th! Check out one of his books from our collection, or maybe you're especially interested in his poetry. Either way, be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to celebrate yet another wonderful author's birthday.

National Dog Day

Make today special for your furry friends! Celebrate National Dog Day all day. If you have a dog, take some time to read them a story about a famous canine, or teach your dog some new tricks. If you don't have a dog at home, check out one of our puppets for Dog Day. Whatever way you celebrate, make sure you do something to honor our Best Friends.

Celebrate Poet's Day!

Celebrate Poet's Day on August 21st. Take the time to honor your favorite poet, especially if it's yourself! Write a poem, read a poem or perform a poem.  You could even comment on this post with one of your favorites.

Are You Geektastic?

Geekt.preview.jpgIf you've been waiting for a chance to celebrate your inner (or outer) geek, check out this collection of short stories and comics put together by Holly Black and Cecil Castellucci. From Star Wars to Star Trek, gaming, T.V. shows, drama club, and more, a variety of your favorite authors tackle the geek world (and admit they are from it). As a former marching band geek who went through the TAG program, Geektastic is the book I didn't know I was waiting for.

Are You a SYTYCD Fan?

Ballroom.preview.pngIf you watch So You Think You Can Dance, maybe you've wondered where you can find all the music. You can find some information on fan sites, some on the SYTYCD music wiki, but if you want to listen to those tunes again or dance to them yourself, check your library!

Audio Ready for Summer Reading?

I don't know about you, but I'm very ready for Summer Reading!  I'm getting ready for a long car trip out to the East Coast by checking out some of our awesome audio books.  Right now I'm listening to Fairest, by Gail Carson Levine - it's read by an entire cast of vocal artists.  I highly recommend it.

Stranded? Not with these reads.

If you're in the mood for an adventure this summer, check out one of these versions of Robinson Crusoe.  Or, try the real life story of Alexander Selkirk, the inspiration for the fiction tale.
