"Father of African Literature" author Chinua Achebe dies at 82
Dr. Achebe, a Nigerian writer whose novel Things Fall Apart was one of the first African novels, famously said: “If you don't like someone's story, write your own.” He was also a bestselling poet and essayist, including his most recent book There was a Country published in 2012. A large part of his work wrestles with the conflict between traditional Nigerian culture and British colonialism and the legacy of that conflict.
