Fall Back this Weekend

Enjoy an extra hour of sleep this weekend as Daylight Savings Time ends and Eastern Standard Time begins 2:00 AM Sunday November 6th. In addition, take time to change those smoke detector batteries and turn on carbon monoxide detectors to protect your family and home.

Prescription Take Back Day, October 29th

Is your medicine cabinet filled with expired or unused drugs and are wondering what to do with them? Safely dispose of them on Saturday October 29th from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM at the Canton Township Police Department. Help keep the water supply clean and at the same time stop dangerous medications from being accidentally consumed or stolen. The free event  is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day and this week's Red Ribbon activities.

Let's Go Red Wings!

Hockey fans, the Detroit Red Wings open the 2011-2012 NHL Hockey season at Joe Louis on Friday October 7th against the Ottawa Senators. Puck drops at 7:30 PM. Grab your spirit wear and cheer them on to what is sure to be another exciting hockey season.

A Day at the Orchard is Fun for the Whole Family

Area apple orchards and cider mills have opened for the season offering cider, doughnuts, apples, u-pick apples, pumpkins, hay rides and much more. Plan an outing and stock up on the seasonal goodies while they last. Go for a wagon ride at the nearby Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill on Warren Road between Napier and Gotfredson Roads.

2011 Household Hazardous Waste Round-up

Canton residents can rid their house of waste considered toxic, flammable or corrosive this Saturday, September 10th from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the DPW located at 4847 Sheldon Rd. Make your home a safe environment and properly dispose of waste material such as computers, scanners, household batteries, oil-based and latex paint, flourescent light bulbs, bug spray, expired medication and much more. 2011 Detroit Jazz Festival

This Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 2-5, the 32nd Annual Detroit Jazz Festival will "Bring you the World" celebrating jazz's influence on the world and the world's influence on jazz. Artists from Japan, West Africa, Israel, England, The Netherlands, Brazil and a diverse collection of Detroit-based talent will perform. It's not ALL jazz, however, as gospel, latin, blues, funk and big band sounds will eminate throughout downtown Detroit. There will also be fireworks on Saturday night. Experience the largest free jazz festival in North America right here in Detroit and be sure to check the complete festival line-up.

MIS August Race Weekend 2011

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pure Michigan 400 will conclude the Michigan International Speedway racing season this weekend August 19-21, 2011. Events begin Friday with Meijer Pole Day followed by Saturday's VFW 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and culminating in Sunday's Pure Michigan 400. Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard will serve as grand marshal giving the command to start engines on Sunday!

Thunder Over Michigan Air Show

The Blue Angels have been flying over Canton! They are preparing to perform in this weekend's Thunder Over Michigan Air Show at Willow Run Airport. World War II Battle Re-enactments, a Vietnam Dogfight and a Stealth Bomber flyby are also scheduled.

A major sport in England and India, cricket is becoming more popular here in the United States. In fact, Canton recently unveiled the Township's first cricket field in Heritage Park. Get Your Kicks this Weekend at the 28th Canton Cup

Memorial Day weekend brings the Annual Canton Cup, the largest soccer tournament of it's kind in Michigan, right here to Canton. Over 781 teams from across Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ontario will compete on soccer fields throughout the area. Check out the new soccer titles recently added to the library's collection.

Flower Power!

Flower Day 2011 at Detroit's Eastern Market will be this Sunday May 15th. The annual event draws over 150,000 people and is one of the largest shows in the country. Hundreds of flower growers from Michigan, Canada and other area states will be offering annuals, perennials, hanging baskets, etc. Bring the whole family for a variety of activities like the Wacky Wagon Contest, Craft Fair, Ask the Experts and the Children's Merry Market Land.
