Stimulus Tax Benefits Explained at Canton Library Program

CANTON, MI—Do you know how the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 affects you? Want to know which tax credits you qualify for and how to get them?

The Canton Public Library and H&R Block have partnered to present a free program on April 5 at 1 p.m. to help residents learn how the act affects them and how to prepare to claim these tax credits on their income tax form. Phyllis Wood, H&R Block Tax Specialist, will tell you how to plan for and document tax credits, what information you’ll need for your tax return and some of the differences between this year and last year’s allowances. You’ll receive information on the qualifications for provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and how they might apply to you. H&R Block specialists will also be available for questions after the talk regarding individual concerns.

“We feel that it is important to inform the public in general about these credits so that they have the correct information to get them at tax time next year. These credits do not affect only first time homebuyers, but the unemployed, low income earners, college students and people making repairs to their homes, to name a few,” says Wood.

Adult Librarian Laura Fawcett believes this program will help educate residents about the provisions of the act. “This partnership allows our users to get the information they need from a tax expert with no out-of-pocket expense. People can ask questions and learn about which portions of this act apply to them and which year they can claim them.” This free program will be held in the Community Room at the Canton Public Library, 1200 S. Canton Center Road in Canton, MI. For more information, call the library at 734-397-0999.
