Puppet Kits

Who doesn't love a puppet show? Puppets help us tell stories in fun, creative ways. Did you know that you can check out a book that comes with a puppet? We have puppet kits at the library that include a picture book with one or more puppets representing a main character from the story. Using the puppets is a great way to help make the story come alive for you! Enjoy it by yourself, or put on a puppet show for family or friends!

Preschool Storytime

Preschool Storytimes are designed for children ages 3-5. Children must be able to sit attentively and participate for 30 minutes. Parents may attend, or must remain in the children's department. Storytimes will be held in the Purple Room starting on Monday, April 29 through Friday, May 31. Registration is online and begins Tuesday, March 26. There will be no storytime on Monday, May 27 as the library will be closed for Memorial Day.  We welcome you at one of the following sessions :
  • Mondays 10:00-10:30 AM
  • Wednesdays 7:00-7:30 PM
  • Fridays 1:00-1:30 PM

Where are the Puppets?

Many of the puppets in the children's department have gone on vacation for a few days to be cleaned and sanitized. They will be back soon, and look forward to playing with their many fans.

Schneider Family Book Award

"Back to Front and Upside Down!" written and illustrated by Claire Alexander, is the winner of the Schneider Family Book Award 2013 for children ages 0-10. This award is for books that embody an artistic expression of the disabililty experience. A Dog called Homeless" written by Sarah Lean, is the winner of this award for middle school kids, ages 11-13. The teen award winner, for ages 13-18, is "Somebody, Please Tell Me Who I Am," by Harry Mazer and Peter Lerangis.

The late Fred Rogers also had great advice for parents in the midst of life's tragedies.

Sports Facts

Who has the record for the most home runs in a season? Who holds the record for the most 3-pointers in their basketball career? All this cool sports trivia can be found in the pages of our Sports Illustrated Records Books in the Children's Reference section, and the children's circulating collection. These are really fun books to browse through at the library. Football and Hockey Records are available as well.
